I'm doing a site for a friend called Australian Birding

Guy has no idea what he wants the site to look like, other than just a few things about the birds in Australia and the annual tours he takes down there.

This is what I have so far: Graphic

I'd obviously have to change the bird to something indiginous to Australia (the guy said he'd send me some birds he likes later), but the concept looked a lot better in my head than it does here.

Perhaps I should change to a bird's headshot sticking out of Australia, kind of like the Arizona Cardinals Logo coming out of Australia. Or a bird perched or something.

I don't know, I need ideas on how to make the graphic look a bit more attractive. I'm not a big fan of the font, but it's the closest thing I can find.

I'm looking for an italic scriptish font that is relatively thick. I was thinking about doing two lines of text instead of one, but couldn't find a bold enough font to make it look good enough.

Any ideas are appreciated.

I like the concept and the idea, but the bird seems dead, and too human. Birds don't smile, they have no expression. And this one, it looks like it's stuffed or something. Sorry if I'm offending you, but that's how I feel.

For the font matter, do you have any experience with making your own fonts?

He said he's changing the bird, it's just there to be there for now.

MrCode... how do you feel about these?

I like that second one, although the capital 'a' looks like a capital 'q'.

Yeah I don't really like that either, but I suppose it could be substituted with a little effort.

No experience making my own fonts. I just searched bird in Google and picked the first choice.

I'm not a real graphic design person :( I can manipulate existing designs, but as for creating something new, not that great at it :(

So you didn't draw the bird yourself? That explains it. Try and get some inspiration, look at some nice birds (or pictures of them), then try to draw it yourself. It doesn't really matter if the dimensions are off, that's fixable.

Good luck!

First one is too fancy. Second and third aren't really the kind of look I was going for. I like the A on the fourth one though, although the font looks a bit sloppy (especially the Birding).

Does anyone know what font the Atlanta Braves use? After looking at it for awhile, the only thing I really don't like about the current font is the A in Australian and the B in Birding. I'm a fan of the A the Atlanta Braves use, I think that might fit the design a bit better.

The guy I'm doing it for says he has some birds in mind, but he hasn't sent me them. The bird is just a placeholder, I'm just kind of wondering what orientation the bird should be. Whether it should be in flight, perched or a headshot.

Flight, definately. That makes it more cheerful and alive.
