I have two 12V .30A 80mm fans that I got for cheap a while back but, they did not come with either molex or the 4 prong connectors. Each one has 3 wires: red, black, white. Could anybody help me with the way I should splice this with a 4-pronged one? (like the kind harddrives use) Also, is it safe to just splice them in using electrical tape, or do you guys recommend some sort of snap on end for these? Thanks in advance, I know this is a remedial question.

i was thinking along similar lines not too long ago but have always selected to get fans with the 2 wire (4 pin) connectors
i have even choose to not get the 3 wire (3 pin)fans, the white wire has a speed report that can be viewed in the bios assuming that your mobo supports this function for a systems fan

how do you want to connect the 2 fans together series or parallel or independently from eachother?

if you want the 2 fans in front or in back its easiest to connect them in series

connect the black wire of 1 fan to the red wire of the other fan

the unconnected red wire of the first......

its easier to show in person (sorry)
its even easier to buy cheap fans with the connects
see if you can find someone in person with an electronics background to do this or show you how to do this
its not hard but it's hard to explain in text

There are several ways you can wire these fans. There are adapters you can buy at some Radioshacks to change the three wires to the four wires used on the hard drives.

Or you can pinch the three wires out of the white connector by using a toothpick and pushing on the silver protrusions on the side of the white connector. After the metal ends are out of the white connectors, you can connect the red wires to the yellow wires in the four-pins and the black to any of the black four pins using electrical tape or even a solder.

The easiest method (but unreversable) is to cut the wires at the ends and connect them to the four-pin connectors.

*The white wires are not used because they transfer information about the RPM of the fans.

I did the second procedure to my CPU fan and connected it to a fanbus...
