EDIT: I was able to determine that the MoBo is an ABIT NV7M... my question now is how do I disable the integrated video? And it is not as obvious as just going into the Bios setup and turning it off

-Thanks in advance

open the case and first check what is the brand of the motherboard..then check if you can see what model it is....

Try opening the case and reading the manufactures name and model number on the board.

Hahhaa... funny. If they were smart enough to print that on the MoBo face then I wouldn't be askin you guys.

I found out it is an ABIT NV7M. I finally found the guy who built the computer and he was able to relay the info....

My question now is... How do I disable the integrated video? And don't say "just turn it off in the Bios setup"... because there is no option to turn it off in the Bios setup that I could see.

Older boards used to have a hardware jumper on the PCB to enable/disable integrated video. Then the industry moved to BIOS-based control for a few years, featuring a control/toggle setting in BIOS. Virtually all boards manufactured in the past few years will automatically disable the integrated video when the BIOS detects an add-in (external) VGA controller during POST.

I have no experience with your board, but given its fairly recent age I would guess it falls into the third category (automatically disables when add-in VGA controller is detected).

There still may be a BIOS option to control the amount of shared video memory allocated (e.g. 8M/16M/32M/etc), which could still need changing to disabled/none.

It's more like this:

When integrated VGA were PCI-style, they needed to be disabled, by jumper or by BIOS control, since they could not coexist with another PCI VGA.

Later integrated VGA were AGP-style. These auto-disable when you plug a real AGP card, and could coexist with PCI VGA cards.

Now we've moved on again, to PCI-Express. Integrated VGA units are either AGP or PCIE style, and either can coexist with a real PCIE or PCI VGA add-on card. The need for disabling integrated VGA has disappeared completely.

On the bottom line, don't be surprised if you find neither switch nor control for disabling the integrated VGA. Chances are that you don't need to do that at all. Just plug your new VGA and go from there.

This is some good help... Thank you. in the Bios there is an option to control the shared memory video allocated. So i will change that setting to the 256 and assume that the integrated video will disable when the card is there.

P.S. to the joker replies, I did read all 72 pages of the manual... says nothing about disableing the integrated video... AND there are absolutely no markings or indications on the MoBo that it is an ABIT board or its model number.
