I need help thinking of a topic for an essay:

This is for an application to the Pennsylvania Governor's School for Information Technology, a free summer program for Pennsylvania high school students. It's due in a week, and I still don't have any idea what to write about for this essay. Thanks for your help.

In an essay not to exceed two double-spaced typed pages, discuss a problem of which you are aware or have interest, at any level (local, national or global) and in any domain (e.g., business, government, the arts, science, education, etc.), which can be addressed by information technology. Discuss your vision for the solution and whether you think the technology you described is currently possible, or possible in the near or distant future.

How about writing about the current situation with Iraq? I guess on the IT note you could add in how important it is for our military to have up and running networks etc etc. Just an idea, hope this helps.

Start reading the paper or cnn.com, so that you have at least a vague idea of what is happenning in the world. Then a question like this:

discuss a problem of which you are aware or have interest, at any level . . . which can be addressed by information technology

will bring to mind a number of ideas.

Go out and buy a Sunday paper if your family doesn't subscribe. Read all of it, not just the comics.
