iv been trying to split a large music file. the only thing is that its a wma and i cant find any free software to split it. iv downloaded several programs but none of them can read the file at all. the only thing that can read it on my computer is windows media player, and a codec player i have. winamp wont even run it! any help would be greatly appriciated!!

Probably be alot easier to convert to a more pliable format, then edit with a more freely made tool... IE Audacity

I have done it in a very crude, but effective way. I used XP's built-in Sound Recorder. It works best with WAV files - so step one is to convert the WMA to WAV.

Then make two copies of the WAV file, a and b or 1 and 2.

Then open the file in Sound Rec and find a good split point aurally. Delete all the file after that point. Save the file.

Next open the second copy and play to that same point. Then delete all of the file AHEAD of that point, and save the file.

You can then convert back to WMA, and you have a first part and a second part.

I usually dothis to combine songs into a single file - for slide show purposes.
