I am thinking instead of going to a P3 600 I am going to do a whole new motherboard, processor, and memory. I think I am going to get the MSI k7t Pro2a, with a 1 ghz or higher AMD processor. My question is what should I get for memory, I mean all these different types are killing me, PC 150, PC 133 CAS 2, CAS 3???? I am confused on the memory, I am not going ot Overclock my system, yet...But I want something FAST. I am going to take over old video card (voodoo5 by nvdiafx LOL) and my other peripherals....just need the main components, someone give me some IDEAS>....and deals too as I am going to do this within a month.....

wreed, I would consider waiting on the KT133A chipset boards. You will see a good improvement by having a FSB at 266 vs 200. hopefully they will be out mid Jan. if you can wait that long.

For that you will need PC133 memory. Cas2 is slightly faster but not required.
If you have the money and want to overclock get the best memory you can afford, Mushkin or Crucial are both good.
One other memory that is getting good reviews is the the Kingmax Tiny BGA
There's a thread about it in the hot deals forum.

Check your power supply also and make sure it is adequate and on the AMD recomended list.

In a nutshell get PC133 CAS2.

The memory performance is much better using CAS2 ( by as much as 10% )
However the EVA 200MHz system bus limits the amount of FSB (front side bus) you can use with your TBird cpu. The motherboard you have chosen works great with PC133 ram at 133. When you increase the bus speed the EVA bus increases to. The EVA bus doesn't have a large amount of room for growth. So usually most people can't get much gain from FSB adjustments, a 10MHz bump is usually all you can get. So using 150MHz ram is really overkill the bus can't handle that high a frequency.

But that motherboard is great for manually adjusting the clock generator!!
Just unlock your cpu and make it a 1.1 or 1.2 GHz cpu running with PC133 memory :D

Here is a link of how I unlocked my 1.1 TBird which is now running at 1.312 GHZ on the same motherboard ;)

My unlocked TBird pictures..

If you click on a picture twice you will get a much closer look at it.

wreed, your power supply may or may not work, it's not the total wattage that is important but the wattage of the processor supplies. Right now, I can't remember which ones those are(help someone).

It does not show up on the AMD list for 1Ghz Athlons.

AMD ps for 1 gig

If you can find a coupon(new customer at buy.com?) you can get the Antec 303px for around $30 or less.

Motherboards prices, it's a guess but in the same range as the current ones. The main change is just to the chipset so I don't think there will be a large jump in prices. As usual the inital prices may be a bit higher and then come down quickly, I hope.
