Hi all, I'm new to this forum, but I've been reading for hours and had to join. Before I get started I suppose I'll give you all the layout of my rig:

Asus A8V Deluxe
Athlon64 3200+ Winchester core
256MBx4 PC3500 dimms
Asus V9999GT (Supposed to be a 6800GT, but it doesn't have the GDDR3, so I feel sheisted, it runs 350/700MHz)
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120GB 8MB cache
Plextor PX-712A DVD Burner

I have an issue with my SATA DVD-Burner. Everytime I try to burn a DVD (or CD for that matter) my computer lags like NUTS. I don't think I should be experiencing any lag whatsoever with what I've got on my rig, and I'm at a loss for what the cause of it is. I've updated the drivers and firmware on it, and it hasn't helped. My friend has a similar rig with the exact same drive with no problems, so I'm trying to think of what could be wrong. Can someone help me? =P

While on the topic of SATA, I bought one of those ATA -> SATA converters for $20 in hopes of using it with my HD. (Future plans of getting another HD and doing Raid 0) When I used the converter, the mobo recognizes the HD and everything, but Windows would not load, I think it has something to do with the BIOS looking for a Pri/Slave IDE HD to boot to, when all the devices would be SATA. Does anyone know what to do in this situation? I've never really used SATA before, so I'm not exactly sure what to do.

And finally on to a project I'm endeavoring on, OCing. I haven't read any guides or anything that give descriptive details on how to do it, what to do first, second, etc, and all that. Just picked up on like, go incrementally, change one thing at a time, etc. I was wondering first of all, if anyone could link me to some guides that might help me, or perhaps just answer with some help. I've read a few posts about turning the HT from 1000MHz down to 800 or 600, locking the 33-66, and upping the FSB and all that. I have a few questions regarding the ram aspect of OCing and the VCore. Loosening the timings to 3-4-4-10 I can see why, but I don't understand why the HT should be reduced..? (I'm new to OCing) And the ratios for the ram are currently at 1:1, but I tried 2:1 and OCing the FSB to 220-230 and getting unstable. After putting it back down to 1:1 things booted up fine again. So I was wondering what exactly would be a good baseline OC to start with before tweaking upwards. Apparently 2:1 is too hardcore, even though I have PC3500 for a mobo that requires PC3200 ram? On a final note about this, I discovered something strange with my VCore in CPU-Z and I'm curious why, no matter what VCore the BIOS is set to, it ranges from 1.472 - 1.488 in CPU-Z. I believe the default is 1.400 and I've taken it up to 1.500 with no change when looking it up on CPU-Z.. anybody know what's going on?

Sheesh, I wrote a lot, sorry for such a lengthy post, but any help would be appreciated thank you!!!

Hi, welcome to the forums
I cant help u on all your issues but I can say this
1) Those ata-sata converters are a joke
2) Raid 0 is probably the worst thing u can do to increase performance as a noob (try getting a raptor instead) -- too many people have crashed and burned
3) overclocking guides can be found in the overclocking section, many people would have written about a64 overclocking but the basics are
HTT can not be much over 1000mhz and be stable -- lower the multiplier to keep it below 1000 eg. stock = 5X200 -- overclocking = 4X250
know the limits of your ram and keep below that, just try running the divider for now, the performance diff is not huge
you wont need that much vcore inscrease to get to 2.5ghz --- maybe your cpu-z is old? that;s why its not refreshing?
4) cant help u on the sata dvd thing but I have kinda the same problem and have been told its a VIA driver issue
