I need help making an Infra Red (IR) Reciever, can anyone give me a hand please?

I just drove around for 4 hours going to all the electronic stores around, and the main IR reciever (the only one i found) only has 2 pins instead of 3!

Heres the link of what im trying to make:

The model number of the IR receiver i bought is: KID-7404-1P

Do i HAVE to get one with a 3rd pin?

this page was linked off of that site you posted, and it looks like you might need the 3 pin version. Looks like the voltage regulator uses a 3 pin set up (pin 1 = in, pin 2 = ground, pin 3 = out) setup, so I don't know how that would work connecting to a 2 pin IR receiver. That page is a little confusing.

Sorry I couldn't help more, I don't have any experience with IR receivers.
 
Is it possible to make one with what i got now?

I dont want them going to waste, and i dont have time for the shipping, i cant start coding without the piece on hand.

The 3-pin IR receivers have an IR photo-transistor plus a band-pass filter (usually ~38kHz) and usually rail-to-rail output. 2-pin receivers are generally nothing more than a photo-transistor so you need your own demodulator and some way to sense current changes.
 
Would it be possible for me to make my own "demodulator"?
I must admit i dont know much about how a circuit works and stuff, so, would anyone know how to do this? (diagrams would be really helpful)

You'd be better off finding a source for the 3-pin receiver (e.g. old VCR). While it's certainly possible to make your own circuit, it would require quite a few components (lots of resistors and capacitors, a few transistors, maybe an op-amp and oscillator).
 
I found an old vcr, it only has a 2 pin IR, but it has a little pc board with some resistors and stuff, and that one works. I found another vcr (same thing practically) but doesnt work. Any ideas?

What are the neccesary parts to building an IR with an ir reciever of only 2 pins?

Anyone now where to get those IR receivers, (3 pin ones) other then radioshack? The canadian web site doesn't have them and radioshack.com doesn't ship to canada.

 
Have you checked Digi-key? They have just about everything under the sun. You'd be far better off going with the three pin version if you can get it. There might be a chip that you can use with the two pin to achieve the same effect but I am not 100% sure on that. In all the IR projects I've done I just used the 3 pin.
 
I checked digikey and its 5$ handling and like 8.50$ or something shipping! comes up to like 25$ for 2! Thats crazy! its only worth 1.50$ or something! My friend has an old VCR and he used that (its a circuit with a 2 pin IR) I took apart another VCR with the same circuit (all most) that makes it into 3, but it doesnt work...


Also, i cant get the parts on the old VCRs circuit because it has some kind of coating on all the parts, and i dont know how everything is connected..

Anyone know how to make this? (or know of a good place to buy it!)
