I have Windows XP Pro, and Visually, the autoload programs that I see appear on my taskbar at bootup are 4 things: ATI Conrol Panel, SoundBlaster Live Control Panel, Sound Volume Control, and PCCillin (Anti-Virus). Those are basically the things that I don't mind autoloading, but when I view the Task Manager...wheeew....there are way too many programs running in the background that I don't know enough about, and whether they are important enough.

I went to MSCONFIG and disabled a number already, but here are the remaining ones that I was not sure about, and I'd like you to help me determine which boxes are safe to uncheck:

Under the General Tab, I have "Selective Startup" as:

Process SYSTEM.INI File *checked*

Process WIN.INI File *unchecked*

Load System Services *checked*

Load Startup Items *checked*

Use Original BOOT.INI *bullet point selected*

...and under the Startup Tab, it shows thus:

sstray *checked*
PCCClient *checked*
Pop3trap *checked*
ImgIcon *checked*
desktop *checked*
point32 *checked*
qttask *checked*
atiptaxx *checked*
CTHELPER *checked*
UPdReg *checked*
ADGJDet *checked*
AHQTBU *checked*
ctfmon *checked*
pccguide *unchecked*
Microsoft Office *unchecked*

For some reason I remember before unchecking more programs than only two, but now only two show unchecked. I still think there are way too many programs running in the background, and I ask that some of you please help me identify some of these programs so that there are not useless programs running in the background that I'm either not going to use, or would just manually launch the program when the time comes for me to have to use them. To this day, I still can't figure out what the point is for MS Office to be running in the background when you can simply launch an Office Document at any given time.

Thanx in advance...
