I need help installing Counter Strike...

I just installed counter strike, and I updated the rooms, and refreshed them all. But when I click on a certain room, it is telling me "Cannot connect to a server with a different protocol." What am I suppossed to be doing? Did I not do something I should have done during installation?

there are different versions of cs. you are using a different version than the server you are trying to connect to.

just make sure you have installed all proper network components in your winduhs network property page. (IPX etc...)

All of that...didnt mean anything to me. lol

I installed it before, and the same problem happened, and eventually, my friend came over and installed it.

you need to get the file named "steaminstall_cs.exe". Google for it exactly as it is in those quotes. Install that instead of whatever you did before and CS will work fine.

After it downloads, do I just run the program.

WHat do I do after it downloads, and when should I go and run Counterstrike?

yes you need to get steam, you're probably running 1.5 right now. just follow ^ his instructions

Eh... I'm running 1.5 and it plays fine (there's still over 8K servers running 1.5, so don't worry). Steam is a pile of, well, steaming matter.

yep steam is horrible, that's why the cpl is paying over $200,000 for people to play 1.6 in their summer tournament.
