My sister is getting married in August.

I was thinking about buying a domain name of those two, and keeping it up to date with information, family information, registry stuff, directions (as time gets closer and stuff.)

Cuz the domain name can be bought for nine bux (GoDaddy.com), and I can search Hot Deals for a basic webhosting plan (Thinking about 25 bux a year).

Good/Bad?

Sounds like it could be a lot of work. Do they use the internet a lot? Do others in your family frequent it?

I'd say good. A techy friend of mine got married a while back and it was handy to have constantly updated directions, registry info and such as well as photos of the ceremony afterwards. Not a substitute for the traditional paper invite, mind you, but a nice supplement.

First, ask her if she wants a public tracking of her marriage, which is what your websites would do. And I think one good domain name is all you need... Don't get two or more :)

Do alot of people need frequently updated information? If yes, than yea its a good idea. Otherwise, may be a waste of time and money. your call.

Good Idea

Seeing as I was just married (see Sig) Its helpful for a lot of out of town guests. I would have done the same thing if only my family knew what the internet was :)

Actually, it would only be as much work as I let it. As basic as I'm thinking right now, not a lot of work. But if I have to add a database for a guest book or something, that COULD be a little time consuming. (Cuz I'm not TOO fluent in scripting, probably PHP I'm guessing.) But I can probably find some PHP Guestbook code out there. They do go online a lot, and his parents more than mine, but all of their friends do, and it would mainly be for those other people.

And also, I meant ONE domain name, like "KeyserSozeandVBboy.com" :D

I think it would be really useful for the application of registry tracking alone.
Sounds like a neat idea :)

A good idea indeed.

However, be careful because once you get to the wedding everyone will know you were the one that did the web site. And then you're fvcked because instead of getting to enjoy your sister's wedding you will be bombarded with computer questions from people you have never met and will never meet again.

;)

i'm getting married and made a page with all the info you mentioned. it's nice for internet savvy and out of towners. if you don't want to purchase a website and hosting this site has a lot of what you want to do premade.

excellant Idea!! especially good for out of town guests. Also after the wedding you could give it to them as part of thier wedding gift, so they could put pictures of thier honeymoon and such and even when/if they have kids. that t=is if they want to do the up keep
