So I got a $50 GC to BestBuy in my stocking this year and I'm having a hard time deciding what to get for my 360. Here's the catch,

I need a new controller, I messed up because last week Call of Duty 4 was on sale for $37. This week its back at $60. But they have Assassins Creed for $37. I need a new controller period, so thats $45 of the $50 right there, but I am willing to pay out of pocket for the game, what do you guys think would be more with it?

Heres my thinking so far.

Call of Duty 4: Already beat the campaign with a buddy over the holiday weekend, online looks like fun but I already have my "online game" Halo 3. Some friends of mine got the game and are urging me to get it to play online with them, they claim it will pull me away from H3

Assassins Creed: The game type really interests me, I haven't played it at all and none of my friends have it so its completely "new" in my eyes. I've been looking for a game that I can play with a purpose rather then run around kill people and try to get the highest score.

I'm looking for someone to swing me one way or the other, price is sort of leaning me toward Assassins Creed right now since I will only pay $30 out of pocket compared to $60.

Help me decide!
Thanks :)

Sounds like you should go with Assassin's Creed to me. That's what I'd pick. It's cheaper and Assassin's Creed seems much more interesting. I've never been a big fan of the tactical shooter type games.

note: I have played neither of those games.

Assassin's Creed is horrible except for the graphics.

COD4 is multiplayer awesomeness.

I did have fun playing some multiplayer with with a few friends(since XBL is down) It was fun and new compared to Halo 3. But I have a feeling if I got COD4 then one or the other will end up spending time on the shelf.

Can someone tell me what is so bad about Assassins Creed? I've heard how repetitive it can be.

Assassin's creed has more merits than it's graphics. In fact, for the first 5 you will think the game is one of the best damn games ever. The flaw is that the stuff that you are doing in the beginning of the game is the same thing you will be doing at the end of the game. So yes, AC falls flat due to repetition. However, I recommend at least renting the game, as the gameplay itself is intriguing enough. Also, the story isn't half bad, and I loved the ending.

Both of these games have been on sale for $40 at Target/Amazon recently. I own them both but am only now getting into CoD4. My advice? Keep an eye on cheapassgamer.com and save your money. :)

Well for replay value due to multiplayer and just because the multiplayer kicks ass, I'll say cod4 without a doubt.

AC is repetitive but still fun. it's one of those games that coulda been but short 2% of being great. missions are very repetitive but the act of killing is awesome and is what i think makes the game fun. i don't think you can really go "wrong" with either game.

Specifically what I didn't like about Assassin's creed is the:

repetitiveness
simple boring combat
repetitiveness
story
repetitiveness
too easy to jump across rooftops and stuff. It almost feels as if the game is playing itself.
repetitiveness

I have both, and really like both. But CoD4 will definitely hold my interest longer due to great multiplayer and other difficulties in SP. I don't own Halo 3 but have played it a lot and rented it at the beginning of break so I had lots of multiplayer time. Halo 3 seemed really hard to get into because I was getting destroyed in every game I played. CoD4 is a bit more forgiving as I never felt completely worthless while playing. It would definitely pull me away from Halo 3 but that's not a bad thing.

AC was still a great buy, but now that I'm done with it I'm not likely to go back and play through it all again at the same difficulty. There are flags to collect but it's a PITA even with a flag map, and bordering the line between fun and tedium.

i was kinda in the same situation as you but thank goodness, my friend bought me call of duty 4 and i ended up buying assassin's creed.

assassin's creed is pretty repetitious, however i think it's still fun. as long as i pace myself, i am able to still have fun with the game. the fighting is easy and all but i still think it looks cool. i say buy the game since you have your multiplayer fix with halo 3 anyways and it's cheaper out of pocket for you.

I certainly don't regret renting AC and playing through it, but I'm not sure I'd buy it even for $40 because it doesn't have a lot of replay value.

Assassin's Creed is a game to rent, not buy. I'd recommend you buy CoD4. The online is fantastic.

I have it and I think it's pretty good. It can get quite repetitive, as the little missions don't offer tons of variety once you get used to them. They also aren't very difficult. running around the cities is quite fun though...

I'd say the main problem is that it has some serious bug issues. It auto saves quite often, so you don't have to worry about losing progress when it goes into a freeze.

If you already have your MP gaming time vouched for with Halo 3, and you've already played through the CoD4 campaign then I wouldnt go for it. I mean, I think CoD4 (single-player) is a little overrated anyway--but I know that I'm totally not with the masses in feeling that.

Assassin's Creed is a really cool game. Yes, it gets repetitive (skip the flag hunts unless you're feeling particulary ambitious as it offers no reward but an acheivement) but I still liked it. Kind of a cool story and the feeling of navigating an open city by rooftop never got old to me.

Whatever you do, be sure to search out and find the coupon for $10 off of any video game at Best Buy. It's good through the end of January. I've used it 3 times already with no problems. One of the games was Assassin's Creed for the PS3, which I got for $27.99. I haven't even opened it, so I can't provide any feedback for it.

It can't be as repetitive as the Mako parts in Mass Effect... can it?

Assassins creed has good graphics and decent gameplay but the lamest storyline IMO. Being I own both, if I had to choose, like you do, I would gor for COD4. Endles online fun.
