get married sometime in the future and try to convince your wife that you need a new computer.

If he could find a woman dumb enough to marry him, I'd buy him the computer he wants.

Given the way you act.. it's pretty clear why you're here on ATOT instead of out socializing.. and why you hate people your age.

Not sure how that was meant to be taken, but I'll take it neutrally. I'm not out socializing because I've got mono, and I hate (most) kids my age because they're spoiled, immature (all the time as opposed to only some of the time), and do anything just to fit in.

Yeah but I'm sure from their point of view (and how you've flaunted how good you are since you got those 2 awards) I'm sure alot of them think you're a braggart, and a poor winner. Keep in mind, at the age of 16 most people are to busy judging other people and not busy enough cleaning up their own act.

That's not how I am at all. I'm a dick when people who already have something complain about wanting something more that they think they "need" when they don't. I'm not a poor winner by any means, not only did I spend a lot of time on those videos, I spend time on anything I do, whether it's sports, school, or anything else.

I'm not so busy judging other people that I'm not cleaning up my own act. After having dealt with most of the same kids since junior high it gets old when none of them grow up even a little bit. They're still acting the same way they did in 7th grade and we're almost halfway through high school.

Yeah dude, but it's a part of growing up.

Not maturing in 4 and a half years is part of growing up? If I gave you some examples, you'd see what I'm talking about. I deal with kids like the OP every day and it just gets tiring.

Dude, if you can't type.. and you're to lazy to type. You're going to hate how painstakingly long video editing and creation will take.

You would freak out about image creation and editing.

I don't need your examples man. I went to an ultra rich private school where half of the kids drove porsches and benzes. I have an idea. The whole point of adolescene is to get a self inflated idea of yourself.. get very ignorant.. and get shot down. Then you figure out how you SHOULD act, you live and learn.

It's like dating your first girl, you get shot down and then you figure out how not to act later.

You learn your teenage life to figure out how you don't live as an adult.

just do YOUR WORK IN SCHOOL.

No dude, you're just another spoiled kid. Maybe one day when you have to earn your money you'll learn to appreciate it.

How about this, your 12 and you have a 1.2k computer. I'm 18 and I have a 20,000 car, and 9k worth in mods done to it. What I have done garners some respect, why? I paid for all of the mods done to my car with money I earnt.. at the age of 18. If I want I could have asked my dad to pay for it but I didn't.

So. When you earn your own money then you can be proud of what you have because it's actually yours. Until then it's your parents that they've bought for you.

Edit: And by the way, when I was 12, my computer cost about 2400 bucks. 1.2k is small bones.

if you just want to do video editing, get a bigger hd and add a gig of ram to it.

The KEY is the ram. If you're using some hardcore software like Avid, you'll need at least a gig.

You 'need' a better machine as a High School sophomore....

If you had a 486 with Win95, I might agree with you. However, since you have a more than capable machine, sit tight on that money. This time around, your parents ARE right. I'm "only" 18, and if you don't trust the others who are much older than I, trust me on this.

And as you hopefully picked up, you will never be taken seriously unless you learn proper grammar and spelling. Never.

We never said it wasn't the best, we just said you're not justified to brag about it since you didn't really have to earn it.

I have EARNED MY OWN money for this comp. i accually have a job. my house has 1 acre of grass that i have to cut with a push mower and my dads idea of paying me is freeding me dinenr. i am not asking anyone to buy me my comp. my mom is giving me her car when she gets a new one and paying for insurance and gas. i didnt even ask for that, they offered becase i will basicly be going to school and back. so everything i want to buy is going to be paid for by my hard earned money. not my parents just mine. If i were to upgrade my comp that i currently have, i would get 1gig or ram ~140, DVD burner ~60, 250gug HDD ~100, vid card ~150-200. that equals roughly about 500. I could just spend an extra 500 and have a brand new rig. i have all the money saved up for a 1200 rig. im not going to spend that much on it beace i dont need it. and again if i got stuff for my newcomp, non of it wwould be compatable with anew mother board if i get it. apg and pci-e doesnt mix and the ram wouldnt work because its a different type. that is my main reason.

So... your parents putting food in your mouth and giving you clothes and place to sleep at night... and they are paying you to cut the grass? You should do that just because they are your parents. I cut the grass for my parents the entire summer, and all I got was a "Thanks."... which is all I wanted.

Your parents are going to be giving you a car AND insurance AND gas money and you don't get the hint that they want you to SAVE your money? If you have any plans to go to college, start saving NOW. $1200 won't get you through one year. Depending on your finaid, maybe not even a quarter.

Why do you need an extra Gb of RAM when all you need to add is a 512Mb stick?
$60.

DVD Burner: I'll go with that. $60.

You also don't need a 250Gb HD to edit video on. That's twenty hours of raw, uncompressed footage. You don't need that much. 120Gb will do you, with a lot of room to spare.
$80.

Lastly, you don't need a $200 video card to use with video editing. Get a grip, kid. Seems to me that you are trying to justify these parts by arguing that you'll be using them for video editing, when in fact you won't be.
Plus, "I did some editing when I was 13" - laughable. The chances of you being able to make money from this are so slim that you could put the Olsen twins next to this idea and be able to call them fat.

Grand total: $200.

Pwned.

I feel 10% dumber now that I sat here and read all 8 pages of this thread. It was a kinda funny reading about the two guys calling each other names in the middle pages though. I got a new phase out of it: Tooling whore. I'll use it in a sentence for ya: I came home from work early today and saw my tooling whore of a wife sucking on the mailmans sack.

Your current machine is more than enough.

- M4H

Yes. Buy a firewire card if you need it ($15), a DVDRW ($60) and a big, fat hard drive ($100) and you'll get FAR more added value than you would from some damned $3000 SLI-garbage.

Maybe even buy a Radeon 9600/9800, if you're hurting in that department.

Every game ever released is playable on a Duron 1300 with a Radeon 9600, WTF are you bitching about?

I'll see your ghetto-gaming estimate and raise you Doom 3 played on this.

Aluminum does a better job of dissipating heat under low-airflow situations.

3) Sub (ONE of them, not ten)
Best $500 you'll ever spend on a car.

If he spends anywhere near 500 bucks on that.. I should shoot him... and you for giving him that advice.

Used head unit.. used subs.. used amp..

I bought an RF X3 (300w 2 Channel amp) 2 Alpine Type R 12s and a JVC Headunit for 400 CDN. USED. GET IT USED.

Either way.. the kids more spoiled than I am.

I got my own car from my dad, but for the first year of driving I drove my moms 1992 Volvo 240, then after I brought my grades up 10 freaking % I got my car.. it was also my christmas present.. graduation present.. and everything else present.. a used Acura RSX.

I'm ranked number one in my class right now with a 4.417 cumulative GPA, and my parents don't give a rat's ass. I definitely agree though, this kid is way too spoiled.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Grade Point Average a 0-4.0 scale? :p

- M4H

My school uses 0-5.0 scale.

Mine went to 0-6. A 2 was basically a D-
Before you know it, schools will move to a ridiculou centenary scale! Absolutely absurd!

just buy the darn thing and when it comes, tell your parents that it's your money and you're entitled to do what you want with it.

, i worked the summer (doing 50 hour weeks sometimes) as a lifeguard in a posh fitness club so i made a fair bit of money, and i never paid tax on it as im a student, but my dad insisted i used the money to get my self something nice as i deserved it, that or keep it, but i wanted a kick ass computer so

but i do wish id of bought a lappy now, lugging this thing places is annoying

Hell, just drop $80 on a 9600 Pro from FS/T and be done with it.

It will run Doom 3, HL2, and most any other game at a decent speed. Maybe not at OMG100FRAMERATE! but it'll do the job.
