I need help coming up with a name.

Every year or so, I get the video editing bug. This year, it's solely because of Halo 3 and it's theater mode, which, when coupled with the online functionality, is probably one of the best features of a videogame in years IMO.

So, I need help coming up with a name for my series of videos. To give an example of what I'm talking about, I'll point you to an old friend's website. He is the one who got me interested in video editing about 3 or 4 years ago, and I've since been off and on with it. One of the things he did in his spare time was play Halo1 with his buddies over a LAN, matches of which he recorded through his digital camcorder, and edited in Premier Pro.

Here is his site: The Halo Chronicles. He's named his line of videos by that name, and since I'm a huge copycat, I thought it was a good idea 🙂 He made quite a few videos, and put this site up as a placeholder for his work. I wanted to come up with a name for my video(s), so I could have an intro screen that would tie together all videos that I end up doing for YouTube purposes.

So, can anyone help me? I am probably the most uncreative person when it comes to thinking up names, and anything I think of revolves around my friend's "chronicles" theme. Even though I like the idea of having an overall name, I'm not going to copycat his name theme and just go to thesaurus.com (even though I'm very, very tempted).

Even if you don't have a good name to suggest, check out his videos while you're there...there are some great skills on display. I've currently got a video that is almost complete, and will be posted here for your perusal sometime this week, assuming I can come up with a name to make the intro video. My video isn't top-tier quality stuff, but I don't feel like I'm a chump in the editing room either 😉.

"Worse than TF2"

I kid 😛 How about Halownage?

It really depends on what your videos are going to be about, though. Is it going to tell a story like RvB? or just be multiplayer highlights?

Simply multiplayer highlights. I'm not nearly funny enough to come up with actual machinima 🙂. The videos will be nothing serious, just something to do for fun in my spare time, and something hopefully a few of you guys will enjoy.

EDIT: I actually wouldn't mind doing a machinima type "episode" if someone was able to come up with a decently witty script............

what exactly do you need to capture vids and get t hem on the PC so you can edit em and what not? i've heard that doing this in HD is not even affordable. i've always had an interest in doing this ...

I've had a USB capture dongle that I always used in the past, but lost the software to it, so I recently picked up a super-cheap, $20 K-World PCI capture card from Newegg. Don't get caught up in these $100+ solutions, especially if you're just doing stupid YouTube stuff like I am. This K-World card works beautifully under Vista. Capturing video in HD isn't affordable at the moment, although I haven't really looked much into it. I'm just capturing at 480, which is fine for my usage.

But anyway, that K-World card that I got has inputs for the regular composite video and audio, plus s-video. You plug in your 360, fire up the software, and if your computer is powerful enough, you can record the video while being able to preview it live, meaning you could play and record if you wanted to (which is pointless with the theater feature).

I've just been starting a recording at the beginning of a match and letting it play, then if I get to something cool that I did, or something I think would work, I'll pause it, unhinge the camera, and shoot it from a few different angles until I think I have something I can work with.......all the while, it's recording everything. An 11-minute match quickly turns into a 25-minute video file in the end, but I think it helps just having a few large files instead of numerous small ones. Then I edit everything in Premier Pro 2.0. I'd like to learn how to use After Effects at some point.

I posted a video in Off Topic that some friends and I made late last year. It was our own version of The Office, but at our workplace at the time.....it was actually really decent. I'll have to get that back up online at some point.

But anyway, that's way off topic.

Bungie really should find a way for us to export the movies we create instead of jumping through hoops with video capture cards. That's the only thing they are lacking since EA has already done it.
