Hi,

Im planning on putting together a new system. All i need to purchase is:
-motherboard (?)
-CPU (AMD athlonxp 1.53ghz)
-1-2 Gigs of Ram (why not)

anyways, what i need is some help choosing a good motherboard. what motherboard do you guys (and gals) recommend. My needs are: i want to connect more than 4 usb devices, large amount of ram, ability to overclock it (i just want to be able to do it if at some point in the future), and ability to have more than 2 hard drives on it without sacrifing the ability to have a dvd, cdrw, zip, and even a floppy.

all this and i want to do it without having to spend more than 500-600 dollars if possible.

i figure the cpu will cost a little under 200 after the price cuts on monday. the ram about 120/gig and the mother board somewhere around 100-160.

Well please let me know what available now or in the near future you would recommend.
I read the article anand has on the via kt266a and was very please with the Epox board.

thanks for your input,

kirit

Well, at the moment you do really only have those three KT266a boards to choose from. So read the review and take your pick. Or better still wait a couple of months for some of the better offerings that are bound to come out. All of the three boards in the review will support what you want to do.

But 1-2 gigs of RAM is downright stupid. I mean REALLY silly. 512MBs will cut it, if not satisfied 768MB will do you well. You will not see a performance increase from 768 to 1024. Save the money. I mean it's not like you're running a fileserver for a large company right?
