my brithday is coming up im about a week. im thinking im going to ask my grandma for a digial camera. i have no clue waht i neew form it. its for everyday candid use. i was thinking maybe 3.2 megapixel(is that desent?) can some sugest one that desent in the $150 range thanks

avoid olympus... i heard they were good.. so i purchased a olympus... but i dont really like my digicam.... kinda biased... but i wouldn't recommand it...
if i had to do it again... i'd go for a cannon..

Look at the SD300.

Its smaller than the nikon and has better video it looks like (30fps v. 15, with sound, dunno if the nikon has that or not) but you lose 1 megapixel. EDIT: Nevermind, the nikon does 30fps video as well, but make sure it does sound if thats important to you. Another thing that got me to go with the sd300 was speed, all the functions are quite fast, very little shutter lag. Again, dunno about the nikon.

4 or 5 megapixel is better than 3 obviously, but unless you're going to be printing 8x10s or bigger, a 3.2mp would do fine. You could even check out the sd200 and save some cash if needed. It has all the features of the sd300, but with 3mp instead of 4.

Check Steves Digicams for reviews. You should be able to find anything you'd want to know about digital cameras, including sample pics and video.

As far as the SD card. I have a 512, and only one time did i run out of space (after taking some video). I'd say go with a high speed gig if you can swing it, but if not the 512 still fits like 240 pics or 4 minutes of video at the highest settings, which should be enough for everyday stuff.

the thing i dont like about the sd300 is its small. i want something a little bigger. i have big hands. im going to go to best buy and accualy feel and hold them to see waht i like better

Ah, i was mainly looking for as small as possible when i picked out mine.

True, its not always that easy to hold on to, but its nice when i just want to slip it in a pocket.

I looked at steves and there isnt anything on the 5900. Still may be worth a look if you want to compare stuff.

Which cam you got? I have the C765 UZ and its great! Very user friendly and awesome 10x optical zoom.

if you want small, with great photos, casio is a great camera just get the exilum 50 i think it is... or the 40. I had that before i took it back and got a nikon 4800 which is an incredible camera... but that was up in the upper 3s...

get the sd300, the 5900 isnt that much bigger, but does have a little grip

most nikon cameras in that line ie. 5200, 4200 over expose the pictures a bit, the best example i can give is that the nikon rep from my store took some pictures of donovan mcnabb and terrell owens and the grass at the practice facility almost looked neon when he printed them out on a printer in the store...

really i didnt know that. o well i still have to go thte store and accutally feel them. I kinda like the look of the sd300. i will look at it too at the store

Twitchee2: You don't like AA batteries? What's wrong with getting 150 pictures w/4 AA's?

OK. Get 4 rechargeable NiMh AA's with a charger and get 15,000 pics.

My 1st wife took 200+ pics with her A80 on a trip to Alaska. EVERY picture was great. All were in focus. Beautiful colors. etc. etc.

i personal wouldnt mind by my mom ( was a professional photograpgher) doenst want me the get one with AAs. that why i need the Li batteries
