I strongly suggest you write out what each piece is and then have the url as the link instead. I'm not sure about everyone else here but I don't have the patience to go to every link.

I'm not attacking you or your thread, it's just a tip, I'm sure other people feel the same way as me.

for the processor?

Welcome!

A good resource is the RTPE. Often, there are alternatives to Newegg.
In no order, some shops I like:
zipzoomfly
SVC
performance pcs
sidewinder
endpcnoise
coolerguys
frozencpu
silverpcs
quietpc
pcalchemy

As for the parts:

OS- I'll take the liberty of assuming it's WinXP. Go for the OEM home edition SP2 $92

case- you can get a decent case/ ps combo for about $100. the sonata II is on sale at newegg for $85.

cpu- 3000 venice is nice, $125

mobo- nforce 4 is the only way to go. the egg shows 14 nf4 Socket939 / PCI-E boards under $100

RAM- corsair is good stuff, $80 isn't bad at all. 1 GB will be enough to start with

video- I like the BFG 6600GTOC $180

HDD- barracuda 7200.8 250GB $100 at newegg

DVD burner- NEC 16X ND-3540A $40

$802, and you still need a keyboard and mouse. Future growth: Mystique sound card $80, cooling enhancements $25-150

Make sure the parts you pick are compatible. The CPU and mobo should be socket 939, the vid card and mobo should be PCI Express, RAM and mobo should be unregistered DDR400. nforce4 motherboards natively support SATA, so no problems there.

Good luck!

I know we are all free to make our own picks, but considering overclocking a C3D GTO that costs $160 or running a 6800GS at stock and paying $199, the $180 6600gt is just a really bad deal. Those cards were a great midrange option when they were introduced, but they really are too expensive now. I wouldnt consider a 6600gt for anything over $120 with these other deals around.

then i'd take the 6800GS. having owned both, i'd pick nvidia any day. if ati's motherboards are any good, their cards are probably a better match for them.
