I need help before I buy my laptop

Alright I need some help when it comes to the processors.

Here's my situation. I'm not confident on what I'm getting yet so.. I'm not getting it yet.

The two computers I'm looking at: (Please note, only 256ram if its cheaper to buy another 256 later and just put that in.)

Intel® Pentium® 4 processor,2.4GHz,15.0 XGA
256MB 266MHz 1 DIMM
40GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive
24X CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive
32MB ATi Mobility? Radeon? 7500
94 WHr Lithium Ion 12-Cell Battery

or

Intel Pentium®M,1.3GHz,14.1XGA ATI 64MB Video
256MB,DDR,266MHz 1 Dimm
40GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive
24XCD-RW/DVD Combo
48WHr Primary Battery

Alright as expected the Pentium M one costs more. Me being out of the loop and never having owned a laptop before....

Alright assuming there is no cd in the cd drive.

Around how long would the 2 last? 4hr/7hr? I'm not sure.

My other question is performance. I'm kinda clueless on how the stack up. Now one have a 64MB Video card and one has 32MB. That really doesn't matter this is for college. Maybe I'll play TA solitaire between classes but that's it... well maybe something else to.

From what I can tell the batteries are not ones that are modular and just slide into the front. Those would be nice though.

Maybe I can be referred to some articles on this subject?
