I need help (anyone knows security cameras well?)

Ok here is the problem

I have a garden in my property.

Its about 150 feet by 100 feet and about 30 feet from the house.

Now here is the problem. The house is right next to apartments. I planted alot of random stuff this year (tomatoes, pumpkins, squash, watermelon etc) and wasn't having any problems.

Recently one watermelon got stolen. Ok that wasn't a big deal. But last night many more stuff were stolen and not just stolen but there was some damage done to the garden. Some of the squash were cut up and thrown around the place.

Now my question to some of you who might have some setups around the house is, what are my best options?

I am thinking of getting a wireless small camera that I can mount on one of the trees. I am thinking of one that can detect motions and record video and also warn me at the same time. That way I can go out there with my shotgun and scare the son of a bitch (fences are high so it'll be hard to run).

So any idea clues ? better ideas?

Yea I know winter is coming up but I might as well know when there are people in the property.

It sounds like kids being idiots. Maybe try putting up a sign that says 'Smile for the camera' ? I know I wouldn't try jack around a sign like that if I were a minor.

I like the idea of catching someone in a penned up area as much as anyone but you might
want to be careful with the shotgun. If you are going to show a gun you better be willing to use
it and if you blow someone away outside your house because they were messing around in
your garden your local DA might want to see you in court over it.

They make cameras that take pictures of deer (and other wildlife) on trails around here and they
work off of a motion sensor but I don't know if you have to use a flash or not with the camera. Maybe
they make some type of film that you don't have to use a flash with......

Good luck in your hunt.

of course I'll be careful with the shotgun.

I just want to scare whoever it is.

Anyway not alot of people have ideas or been doing it so I guess I'll just have to fiddle with it.

Step one: File a police report and listen to their recomendations. If anything goes wrong, it'll help show that you had reason.

Not that you are going to accidently shoot them, but if you scare the hell out of them and they get hurt on your property, a previous police report may be grounds to drop any case against you.

I'm not an expert, or near it though. But I just think it would be agood idea.
