I need help about my processor and motherboard, I have a Pentium 200 MMX and a VX PRO+ chipset, I was able to overclock it at 225 Mhz using 75 Mhz multiplied to 3 = 225 Mhz and works fine, so I decided to overclock it up to 250 Mhz, The very first time I boot up the system crashed and the second time I was able to go to windows but windows crashed too. I used the 83 Mhz FSB multiplied to 3 = 250 Mhz. I think that my motherboard and my processor doesnt like the 83 Mhz. FSB cause I also tried using 83 Mhz multiplied to 2 = 210 Mhz. but still windows crashes. there arelots of people told me that they were successful in overclocking a Pentium 200 MMX to 266 up to 300 Mhz but how can I overclock it up to 250 Mhz? I need help!

Just because the CPU can go that high, it doesn't mean the rest of your
system can. At 83mhz, your PCI bus is running at over 40mhz and
everything connected to the PCI bus has to be capable of withstanding
the overclock, or else it won't work. On the other hand, maybe your
CPU just can't take it... at 83mhz though, I think it might be memory.

Watch out for that 83mhz bus speed! Most of the old MB's had it, but would not run it well. ASUS and ABIT had a couple that would. If you have problems running that high out of spec there is a good possiblility you will corrupt your harddrive. I hope you have everthing backed up?

what do you mean the other hardwares connected to my pc cannot withsatand to the overclock? can you tell me exactly what are these hardwares I have a PC 100 64 MB RAM and another PC 100 or PC 66 32 MB RAM, a S3 trio 64 V+ PCI 1 MB video card, two harddisk one 1.7 GB and a backup of 200 MB, a 16 bit creative sound card. What do you think the problem is? other people had overclocked their Pentium 200 MMX to 300 Mhz. other was able to do it at 250 Mhz and 266 Mhz. any advice?

When ypu overclock the FSB all of your PCI card like NICs and sound card will run on a higher PCI clock, but most important your harddrive. And harddrives dosen't like a higher bus speeds, old harddrives got even more problem than new ones.

I concord, avoid 83mhz if you can

I myself have the success of pushing my Pentium200MMX to 290MHZ!

The Trick is having a good m/b like the FIC 503+, you can actually using the 124mhz X 2.....

Just imagine the possibility

It sound like you're almost there at 250mhz.

I would (1) buy a new and a bigger heatsink. Most pentium heatsink just don't cut it, you need a heatsink that is made for K6(2) in mind, which are generally bigger all around

by the way, my 200mmx won't hit 290mhz initially.

I LAPPED (SANDING) both my CPU and my HEATSINK to SUPERFLAT!
then apply some cheap thermal greese,
slapped on the heatsink from my dead K6(2)300.

Voila a Pentium 290mhz. It will hit 300mhz in post, but not stable enough to load window

LAPPING MY SON, IS THE KEY TO ALL OC SUCCESS!

I found out an empty soldering pads in my multiplier jumpers, I just read on a certain VX PRO+ site that these empty soldering pads will able to multiply up to 5.5 X will it work for a 75 Mhz FSB? I'll just try multiplying the Pentium processor to 75 Mhz X 4 to get 300 Mhz. Can it withstand the overclcok?
