a 550ti is compatible, but your issue is that you'll bottleneck any $300 card in today's offerings with your CPU and ram. I noticed you're also pushing 1920x1200 as a res.

What I'm willing to suggest that you look into is these options from nVidia and AMD.

GTX 650ti - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130839
HD 7770 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127664
HD 7750 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121633

These are the highest end you should probably go considering the rest of your system will bottleneck anything that performs better than those.

If you can consider used, look for a GTX 560(ti) or 6850 or something for less. You'd be running faster than most of the cards I posted for less $ despite still being bottlenecked by your CPU and ram.

For new $ sake,

GTX 560 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130661
HD 6850 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102908

Other members can post in their opinions, i just thought we could start off with some models to reference between.

Ya, I just don't really know what this stuff costs. The 550Ti seemed pretty good, and was a good price. $300 is about the max I'd pay. If the offerings at that price level don't make sense... this is exactly the information I need!

I wouldn't bother buying a 560 at that price when a 660 is roughly priced similarly. I'd still suggest not looking at anything past 650/660 performance. Maybe a more experienced member will disagree but how I work it out in my mind is the rest of your system is going to even bottleneck those.

A Q6600 at stock can support graphics cards up to about an HD7770. A Q6600 overclocked to 3.0 could support cards up to about an HD7850. Given that the OP has not yet overclocked his system, I highly doubt he'd suddenly be willing or able to overclock his CPU much above 3.0.

So, given that, I concur with zaydq's recommendations. The HD7770 is the best overall value, and will offer over 2x the performance of the OP's 8800GTS 320. Here's the best HD7770 value at the OP's chosen vendor: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...277&CatId=7387

If the OP is willing to overclock his CPU and wants a better long-term investment, then an HD7850 might be the right fit. His system will never be able to take advantage of an HD7870 or 660Ti, or even a 660, so I'd stay away from those.
