I'm trying to find info on "Fruit Fresh" preservative.
It's a specific brand. I need to know what the active ingredient is.
I think it's ascorbic acid and vitamin c, but I'm not sure.
Can you guys help? I've googled it to death and I'm obviously using the wrong keywords.

(We're putting up apples. We just made 4 apple pies, but we can only get so many pies in the freezer. I can soak the cut apples in brine, but it appears everyone is using ascorbic acid now. We think that's what's in Fruit Fresh...)

Whole apples will keep pretty well in a cool, dry place. Check them every couple of weeks and toss out any rotten ones to prolong their life.

What apples are you making/freezing pies from? The best pie apples aren't even ready here in Ohio.

We're finishing up two trees full of what we think are Cortlands or Macintoshes. The third tree looks like a Cortland as well.

We've only owned the trees (and the land they are on) for two years.
I pruned them all back hard last year and with the late frost and rains we got next to nothing.
This year we're up to our ears.

NP.

My Grandma used to can a lot of stuff and she used that stuff all the time.

Send me an apple pie for the help 😛 it's my fav.

I can't mail a pie from PA to CA, but you're welcome to stop by and have a slice or two.
I'll make the coffee, too. 🙂
