I need Ghostwall for Vista 64!

I need a lightweight expert level firewall and I want one as simple as possible. I DESPISE zone alarm in any form, I cannot tell you how many computers I have worked on over the years where it shuts down the internet eventually. I figured it would have been fixed by now, but lo and behold it STILL does it! I really want Ghostwall but it just doesn't support Vista 64 so far as I know. I think it installs fine but just won't work. Anyway, I want just super simple as best as is possible, thanks in advance...!

You want an expert level firewall, then you go on to say you want super simple. wat? does not compute.

anyway, the best firewall choices are comodo, online armor, and outpost.

None of the free versions of those programs support Vista 64bit. Thanks anyway though, is there any free alternative? Anyone?

Both say they do, but I tried to install both and both said they do not support Vista 64. I trust that a bit more than their advertising or your googling. Please check yourself if you don't believe me.

I've used Online Armor and Outpost on my Vista x64 system before, it's on your end.

If I could post a screenshot here I would, but there should be no reason unless I have to disable the Windows firewall first. Still it says in the message quite clearly that it does not support 64 bit Vista. Perhaps ther is another download for 64 I can't find, or perhpas the newest version does not support it.

Well Comodo has a drop box that lets you specifically choose the x64 version. Outpost only has one downloadable version but it says clearly "Windows Vista and 64-bit compatibility"

Online Armor says it's not officially compatible with x64, but it worked when I tried it in the past.

Why not just use the built in firewall? What exactly are you trying to prevent that cannot be done using Windows Firewall with Advanced Security? Stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

Call me paranoid, but anti Micro$oft sentiment alone makes anything they do less secure, and also the windows one is too dumbed down.

Too dumbed down? What else do you want? You can allow/deny any traffic based on application or port based on any port/protocol combination you can think of. It is not hard to filter security and the built in firewall is really nice if you know what you are doing.

Windows firewall/defender for Vista and Win 7 is pretty excellent. I stopped using Comodo when I started using Vista 64. Prior to Comodo I used Zonealarm but it was a bloated beast.

If you think the built in Windows one doesn't work as it's supposed to or too dumbed down, you haven't tried using it?

Try Privatefirewall http://www.privacyware.com/personal_firewall.html site and programs looks like years of eyecandy went over their heads but check it out. Process monitor dont work on 64bit but only 64bit limitation. Easy or not is more or less up to you. Most ??? is more about getting used to interface. Some will say it is horrible just because of that. Not exactly much info available but should not cause major problems.

How well it installs/uninstalls I dont know. Not many of these tools are plug&play so dont complain if all goes to hell. Cant find their removal tool on site so here is link http://www.freewaregeeks.com/i...et_id=2294&category=59

If you believe firewall tests make much sense take a look at Matousec http://www.matousec.com/projec...ve-security-challenge/ - Privatefirewall still not listed as freeware.
