I need experts to tell me about web hosting!!! Urgent

I'm trying to find a paid web hosting service, but I do not understand their terms at all. please someone explain it to me.

Shared hosting
Dedicated hosting
application hosting

Dedicated server
Virtual Hosting


I know this is a lot to ask, but this is very important for me and I need to know very soon. Thank you for all the inputs.

PS. I'm looking for the church web hosting, so I need your advise.

If it's just a small website then go for Virtual Hosting. that just means that your website is on the same server as many others and therefore makes it cheaper.

Dedicated is if you run a really huge website that gets massive hits (i.e. AnandTech has about 5 or so dedicated servers :Q).

application hosting...never heard of it.

1.) You're screwed. Hosting is a large and complicated world.

2.) here's my crack at your q's.

Shared hosting - This is where you share a server with other sites. (same as virtual hosting)
Dedicated hosting - This is where you get your own server(s). For your purposes, its not needed.
application hosting - This is for biz's and is an interesting new trend, but basically not your problem.


Dedicated server - same as dedicated hosting.
Virtual Hosting - Sharing a server, see above.


Now its up to you to find a host. There are zillions. Some are ghetto fly-by-night basement operations. Some are huge in-personal corporations that don't give a crap about you. Then there's everything inbetween.
