i need better cooling for my AthlonXP 2800+

Im running an AthlonXP 2800+ with a thermalright SK6 heatsink + arctic silver 5 compound. My tower is a server tower so there is plenty of airflow in there...besides, I have 1 input 80mm fan in the front and 2 output 80mm fans in the back.

I have two fans I switch off for my heatsink. A quieter Sunon one that runs at around 5000 RPM, but doesnt do a well enough job of cooling (it is with this fan that Im seeing 55C temps at idle!). And a much louder Delta fan that runs at around 6500-7500 RPM. That fan gets the temps a bit cooler, but its so freaking loud that i cant fall asleep with the comp on.

So I can either get a new heatsink altogether, or get a quieter fan that runs at high RPMs.

Can someone give me some suggestions on socket A heatsinks? I havent kept up with whats good and what's not

And im not looking to go hardcore style and implement a liquid cooling setup. Thats just too much hassle

I've used a bunch of CNPS-7000Bs now. On it's lowest fan speed it's nearly silent, performance is also very good, the installation is a breeze (on 754, and 939 at least).

Having said that the Thermalright SI-97A will have better performance (not that you need it) and gives the option of choosing your own fan, which could come in handy since all socket AM2 and 775 boards use 4 pin PWM fan headers.

i just noticed that the 7000B weighs 755g whereas the SI-97A weighs like 250. wow significant difference there

Daamn. It was so quiet when I got it. I used Q-fan to thermally control it and make it super silent. Can't ask for a better silent heatsink, though I bet there are better sinks out now.

It is but the 7000 is low profile heatsink, that means it has low center of gravity so the weight isn't an issue. Also keep in mind the SI-97A's weight is listed w/o a fan.

I should also say that I also use BIOS fan control to the speed of the fan on CNPS 7000, I rarely use the Fan mate.
