I need ATOT's Help

Is there anyone here who could loan me a West dedicated server to play my clan's CAL match on? We don't have a server and apparently neither does the other clan. I tried running a dedicated on my system since I have a slightly upgraded plan, but when I connect directly to my modem Comcast doesn't assign me any DNS servers, and when I go to change them it still doesn't work.

So here I am, begging at your doorstep, to let us borrow your server to play our match in. It has to be a West, so thank you if you're central or east and offering.

Edit: Guess I should mention it's Source and not 1.6

Thanks for the bump, I appreciate it.

If I could just figure out how to get my modem to work on this computer I'd be fine for running a dedicated. Maybe I should try downloading drivers or something and then plugging it back in.

You really think that a server on a home connection will perform better than a dedicated on a real network, in Central US?

Well, I've got the 6mb/768kb plan. It's worth a shot though, where in central is it located?

Not if you violate your TOS with your ISP it isn't.

I got 42ms, not bad for being half way across the states.

Somehow Comcast hasn't caught me doing "other" activities yet, and I've easily pushed out 250GB since November.

Awww thanks DeviousTrap, but I need a Source server. 🙁

I didn't even bother joining but from command prompt the pings were in the 190s.

And risk getting kicked out of CAL? I didn't realize they stopped loaning out servers otherwise I would've forced my clan to make a decision on where to buy a server from.

You're very good at assuming 🙂

Assuming what? 😕

I just tried to connect to the server and it opened up 1.6 instead of Source so I didn't bother loading the server.

Where did I ask you to connect to a server? I gave you an IP address to ping...

I pinged it and got in the 190s so I tried just connecting to it instead to see if that was accurate.

Running a 20 person dedicated under CS 1.5 took almost a meg and a half of upload, as I remember... if it was only a 10-slot server under CS:Source, you might have a shot with 3/4 of a meg upload... but any more than that and you're really going to start feeling it. And Comcast won't take kindly to it if they catch you, as has been pointed out - its almost certainly against their TOS.

I think you just need to bite the bullet and rent your own dedicated - as you should have done before scheduling a match. 🙂

We're planning on it but we can't rent one in two seconds. And we joined CAL simply because you used to be able to use their servers. They had x amount and if you requested in time you got one.

Ah, didn't know that. Our clan is in TWL, they left you on your own in that regard.

Bump for a fellow CS Source player! Hope you find a dedicated quickly!

Start > Run > ping -t gravity.telnap.com

If you get 190ms when doing that you have a problem with your connection.
