I need assistance in creating my first professional resume

Well, I say professional, but it's not like it'll be filled with much content. I just need to make sure it's done properly.

If any of you remember, I tried applying for a Citizens Bank position online about two months ago, even though I was not 18 yet, and was brought to a page telling me that I did not qualify and that I could not even TRY to reapply for six months. I emailed them and they said I can still reapply right when I turn 18 by directly forwarding my resume and skipping the online system.

So, I need to make one. What should I worry about including/not including? Any specific order and formatting? I need a cover page, too.

I really want this job, I have a branch one mile from my home and a half mile from my college.

So, how old are you?

If you don't have a significant work history, fill the resume with your academic info. Mention grades, relevant courses, clubs, etc. Anything that shows you are a responsible young adult. Also, include your skills, even if they are not necessarily relevant to the job at hand; they might be looking for a web designer, pc tech, etc. as well, so you might fit one of their other positions. I personally don't find hobbies to be that important unless they actually show off a skill, so I'd keep that section brief.

For your work experience, use sentence fragments that begin with action verbs to describe what you did. For example: "Maintain the school website blah blah" or "Greet customers...." End it with a period or not, but stick with one format.

For your objective, don't use "To gain experience...." That makes it sound like this job is only to help you "gain experience" for another job.

Add "References upon request" and get a list of references handy. And spell check!!!

Wow...
You are 18 and just creating a resume for the first time? You didn't even know Word has a built in resume wizard with templates?
Anyway, what kind of job are you applying for? Or What kind of skills that you have? This inforormation might help us help you...

Yes, first time. That is not surprising. My first job was a bus boy, second is my current one, a cashier at Sears. Neither required resumes.

I'll be applying for a teller position at Citizens Bank. The things I have to go with are my advanced courses, grades, activities and dedicated interests such as computers and piano, and I guess being used to handling money. 😕

I also sort of assumed that using a template would not be a good idea as it shows no effort and they probably see a ton of them.

Post your resume when you are done so we can help correct it. Just fake any personal info beforehand.

I will do so, and I will be sure to put my anti-bashing suit on first, seeing as this IS ATOT and all.

For now I'll use the MS template, we'll see how it looks.
