ups arrived today (sorry no camera for pics) and i have a 3" crack across the top left corner of the screen (molding not the glass)(facing the screen) and a place on the right side molding that popped out where the side meets the back about 3"also i bought a bnc cable for 25.00 because no cable was provided but was listed as having a cable and power cord on the site

the monitor was shipped upside down with this side up (pointing up during delivery) it was packaged in two boxes one directly inside another no airspace and packed with peanuts and styrofoam on the bottom but no styrofoam on the actual top (monitor top)
i contacted ups and got this by email:
Thank you for your inquiry. We apologize for the inconvenience
caused in this matter. We processed a Damage Inspection Report
on your package today. Please retain the damaged merchandise,
original box and packaging for five business days.

If you are not contacted by UPS within five business days you
may discard the package. Please contact the company or party
that sent the package for further assistance.

Thank you for using UPS Internet Services.

i also emailed the seller but its too early yet as he won't respond until tommorow

my questions are as follows

1.am i covered for the 100 bucks and the shipping?
2.what should i look at in terms of customer support?
3.what options should i know about in this deal -i used a paypal credit card
4.i turned on the monitor and have a rainbow of colors across more than halh the screen-can it be repaired?green blue red green
5.will ups repair the monitor or just reimburse?the monitor is in great shape except where its now cracked/broken
6.what should i do/say that wouldn't be out of line here as i am not a happy camper :( but i want to do this right

thanks guys/gals

and i appreciate the help

mike

UPS provides $100 of insurance automatically, don't know if you'll be reimbursed for shipping though, @ least not through UPS.

Seller may have insured for >$100, u need to check with them.

Nope, it's UPS's deal, unless they made him sign a waiver on a poorly packed item...

It'll take a while for UPS to cough up the $ too...

Crappy packing materials..seller's fault. UPS might not even cover it, due to insufficient packaging :(

I'm with hollowman on this. It's the shipper's fault if the packaging didn't do justice. Tell him you want a full refund. Let him deal with the UPS.

i was sad to see the cracks and it was filled with peanuts
if he had just put the foam on the bottom,..........alas

but it must have been a hell of an impact to blow 3 inches of the side out of the track and yet the rest stayed in

yeah they said that if in five days they hadn't sent someone over to get rid of the box and added to take it up with the seller/shipper

you should get the full refund and let the seller deal with the trouble.
does that mean i rebox it and send it back?fight it on the cc bill?

thanks guys how long does it take to get $ out of ups?

that's what i would have done. (whether i was the seller or the buyer) i don't know where you bought the monitor from.. but @ AT forsale/trade forum, that's what respectable traders would do.

anyway, i would say you get your complete $100 refund and maybe split the shipping cost half.

btw, about the monitor.. i think you will have to return the monitor to UPS for them to inspect. obcourse, the seller pays for the shipping cost if he wants it back.

sounds little harsh for the seller but that's the way it should be.

"don't know where you bought the monitor from"

ebay from a a business that had it in their office according to the ad

"anyway, i would say you get your complete $100 refund and maybe split the shipping cost half."

acceptable by me

"btw, about the monitor.. i think you will have to return the monitor to UPS for them to inspect. obcourse, the seller pays for the shipping cost if he wants it back."

cool

"but @ AT forsale/trade forum" yes, i should have done my business there as i have been reading those threads for awhile now and have much respect for at fs/ft and its people

thanks guys for all your time and i will contact ups and the seller again tommorow

update:

from email

hey jeff
i recieved the monitor today from ups.
when i opened the package i found the monitor was shipped on its top
as the "fragile this side up" was actually pointing to the bottom and i was staring at the base.

now the bad news............
the monitor is cracked across the left top corner (facing the screen)
the right side is pooched out as if it was dropped and in this area
it actually is out of the track where it meets the side 2' to 4' down the right side/front.

i sent an email to ups.

also only a power cord was included so i bought a bnc cable 25.00
locally and i have a rainbow over 50% of the screen on the right side.

now what?

mike

Hello Mike,
Sorry to hear about the monitor getting damaged by UPS. It just pisses me off how they handle packages. One time I shipped a TV in the original box and packaging and it was delivered completely smashed and broken into pieces!
That's why I Double boxed it and completely packed it in styrofoam because of their rough handling.
I did insure it for $100 in case of damage. Only the power cord was included in the auction as stated in the ad.
Really sorry that it got damaged!
I will mail you the mailing receipt so you can collect damages from UPS
Thanks,
Jeff

my reply:
jeff i am dropping the monitor off at ups due to it not being my
responsibility that it got busted.

also i expect a full refund including shipping as the item was not as stated "in good condition"

you may need to get ahold of ups to get your money back and since
you shipped it on its top i assume you are responsible for improper
packing.it is your resaponsibility to handle ups as you were the insured party.

if you need anything please feel free to contact me

mike

would this be ok?
