I use the Logitech MX500 mouse and find it a wee bit heavy - there is a metal weight inside the mouse held by a screw - remove this weight and the mouse gets very light and nice for gaming.

Is this the same for the MX510? I've got one and I don't see any screws on the mouse, so if there is a weight in the mouse, is there any way to remove it from the MX510?

Check out the article at Tom's Hardware - he shows the screw and weight on this page for the MX500 mouse. The weight is also there on the other mice shown in this article.

MX500 screw and weight

Oooooooooohhh.... much lighter feeling now ;)

Only problem is, when I took the top part of the mouse off, the scroll wheel came loose and the spring fell out of it (the metal spring that causes the scroll wheel to click and move in increments), so now my scroll wheel slides without any of the clicking or stopping, which I don't know if i like too much, but I couldn't figure out how to put the friggin thing back into the wheel correctly :frown:

Any help on that part would be greatly appreciated also!

Thanks again for mentioning about the weight... it feels like a completely different mouse now!

I had the same problem when I modded the LED's on my dual optical, I unfortunately didn't note the specific orientation of the spring. After working with it, it fell into place though. The pic on that Tom's Hardware page which subman linked shows the spring. It sits in a dip and the other side where it's bent back towards itself goes right up against the inside of the top of the wheel. You can see the little notches in the rim of the wheel where it will "click" when it goes by this spring. HTH

That's the thing... the spring for the MX500 is different than that of the MX510. I still haven't figured out the spring orientation for it yet....

Update: LOL!!! I feel so stupid... The spring is the same that's used in the MX500, but it fell under the ciruit board for the mouse, so I never saw it. Something I did today must have jarred it loose from wherever it was, cuz all of a sudden I heard rattling. I took the shell off again, and out falls the spring! Fit back in juuuuuuuust right!

Now, on to figure out where the other spring that fell out of the shell when I opened it came from exactly...

It was holding up the button for the self-destruct mechanism
