I need an MP3 player. here are my requirements

Ideally, i'd love to get that Lexar Player that uses SD Cards for media. unfortunatley it's not available.

i need either 6 gb of capacity but it cannot be a HD.

the Lexar Player would be ideal because i can just buy 6 1 gb SD cards.

it has to be COMPLETELY idiot proof. it will never get connected to a computer.

it's for my mother, i am going to put the audio bible on the media and i want her to be able to play any part of the bible with minimum work. the idea of having it on cd and having her transfer it from computer to mp3 player is not acceptable.

i'll probably end up buying a HD based one, but it isn't my first choice because she will be using this on the move and smaller and solid state is much better than bigger and harddrive.

finally, her birthday is March 21. if it were later in the year i'd wait for the Lexar. 🙁

I know you don't want HD fro some reason, but the iPod mini 6gb really is your best bet. I think she would have more trouble keeping track of/switching SD cards, then learning how to navigate the iPod interface...

If it is just speech audio, why do you still need 6G? Couldn't you scale back the sample rate, and even go mono?

good point. i'm receiving the 8 cd set later this week. i'll check out what i can do about reducing the total size.

Yikes!

Man, it sounds like the HDD issue is a minimal concern for this project. And, you want to be done by the 21st? :Q

Good Luck!

well, switching SD cards, if the d@mn lexar were available would be perfect. 🙁

it really pisses me off that something like that isn't available already. sd/MS/CF reader that is also an MP3 player.

she can deal with many cards, but i'm not comfortable with her trying to copy and paste from a computer.

8 CDs is only like 640 minutes...you can fit all of that onto 1 card. 😕

i believe the description of the cd set said it was already encoded mp3. i won't know for sure how much space it will take until i receive the cd's. for now, i'm assuming 720 mb * 8.

worst case scenario, right?
