where are you downloading from? this is what's listed on the download page:

You can install AIM on another drive then copy it over to the flash drive and AIM will run off the flash drive, at least from my experience.

Do you want a stand alone or something with a small installer? W/ standalone your better going the online route such as meebo.com or aim express. For something with a small installer, I think that all the IM programs have small installers. Here are my IM links:
