A few years ago I used a program that when installed on my laptop was able to "poll" all the computers on the network I was connected to and return a wealth of information about each one. Everything from computer name to what microsoft updates needed to be installed was available. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the program. It didn't require anything to be installed on the client computers, everything that I see now seems to have this requirement. Has anyone else used a program like this? Any suggestions on a program to use?

Thanks,
Jim

Thanks for the suggestions, I am looking them over now.

The program I used a few years ago was more for inventory. It listed computer name, IP address, operating system, installed hot fixes, hard drives and available space, ram installed, etc.

I need to do a computer hardware survey in a few days for a client, and it would be nice not to have to sit down at each machine to complete the report.

Thanks again, keep those suggestions coming:)

best network scan program EVER. Will tell you more than you will ever need to know about each machine.

Thanks, you were right. I googled "newt" and the links that I came up with were diferent then the download you linked to.
I am testing it now.

yeap I beta'ed it for them sometime back and was a very early purchuser.
They are VERY open to suggestions/eenhancements etc via their forums. the #1 thing that was the selling point to me was no client app required. Now if we used a domain network here it would be ideal. Luckily my login is on 99% of the machine here with admin rights so I escape that issue.

The amount of data this program gives you back is almost scary
