Yesterday I order a Chemning case from newegg as a refurbished item. In the refurb listing it came up as Aluminum but if you check Newegg's retail listing it reads as follows:

Chenming Model# AX-01 (Silver) w/ Side Panel Window 420W Power Supply - Retail
Specifications:
Material: 1.0mm SECC
Form Factor: ATX
Driver Bays: External 4 x 5.25", 2 x 3.5" Internal 4 x 3.5"
Expansion Slots: 7
USB/IO: 2 x USB + Audio
Case Fans: 1 x 80mm (front), 2 x 80mm (rear), 1 x 80mm (side panel see pics)
Power Supply: Turbolink 420W

Do they make them in both steel and aluminum?

I tried going to Chemning's website but I can't find that same model. I did a search on this forum on the word "Chemning" and someone mentions they have aluminum.
Newegg's CSR told me if I didn't want it I could refuse delivery but is aluminum so much better? I have it in my mind that it is cause it's so much lighter.

Lastly, are their power supplies fair, decent, good, very good?

Unfortunately, the store where I bought my Chenming had both steel and aluminum models. The steel case didn't have a window, but the aluminum case did have a window. I chose the aluminum.

secc is zinc coated steel, my friend says it cools like an aluminum case (but weighs like steel).

Cooler Master ATC-710-GX2. Gray Aluminum Case.
Specifications:
Material: Aluminum front panel & Case body 1.0mm SECC (Zinc-coated Steel)<------ thats where it says it

thats on newegg.

Okay, I know UPS does, but does FedEx tell you the weight of an incoming package? If so, see if it says 30 lbs or 18 lbs. 30 is the steel version, 18 is the aluminum version

Peace

A zinc coating won't help a steel case cool any better. Besides, there's little difference between the cooling of steel and aluminum.

To me it's simple; if aluminum its a good buy, if steel, it's not. I'll demand an inspection before I accept delivery.

IIRC the AX-01 is the aluminium version of the DX-series (Dragon). btw Chenming either distributes or actually IS Chieftec (or vice-versa)

Well, it just arrived, so the mystery is over. It was light so I knew it was aluminum and upon opening discovered it is so.
The box says it's an X-PIDER and the item no is: ATXA2XPW-AL/420.

Unfortunately, the person who returned it obviously had already installed the motherboard cause the punch-outs on the ATX port panel were removed. I guess it must have been dropped cause there's a small chip off the paint on the front top edge as well as a little paint scuffed off on the edge of the plastic front panel. Such is life.

EDIT: No, such is not life. After thinking about it a while I came to the conclusion that it had to be returned. Why? Cause "Refurbished" should mean just that. If the paint is chipped it should be repainted. If something isn't working than to refurbish it would me to return it to it's pre-used condition; IOW, to fix it. It doesn't mean to stuff in back into the box and send it out again! Shame on Newegg!
