My buddy and I will soon be travelling through Western Europe and we are thinking about purchasing Tags while we are there. Will Swiss watches be cheaper there than in the US? If so, what city/country would have the best deals on watches? Is it cheaper in Switzerland, where they are made, or is it better to go to a country that has a better exchange rate (for the US dollar)? If so, what city/country would that be?

Also, does anyone know if watch stores are open to bargaining in Europe (esp. since we may be buying 2)? Or are all the legit stores firm as to price?

Hope you are trying to resell them. Remember to wear them on the plane coming back, or they will be subject to customs tax.

If you are buying them for yourself, forget my advice.

my guess is that you'd probably still find those watches cheaper in the US than in Europe!

You definitely will not save any money buying them in Switzerland, despite their being produced locally. Switzerland is very expensive. Your best price will be found on a street corner in New York, being hawked by an illegal Nigerian with a tattered briefcase. It'll say Fag Heuer, of course, but who'll notice? And for $20 you can't go wrong.

Hey, I gots one of those for $8! It doesn't look too bad and from 10 feet away you'll never know it was fake with the naked eye. If you choose to go this route then I suggest you keep it away from water... :)

Before you go look online. I've seen a couple of watch-only websites that carry Rolex, Tag, etc., that you can get pretty good deals on...

Around here, everybody and his mother has a fake TAG. A friend of mine bought a real one and flashed it to me. The first thing I said was "Right ....I have one too and so does every kid on the block." I thought it was fake and so will everyone that sees it. Is this why you are going to spend $700+ for? Of course you will respond with "I'll know its real" and you will know its real but everyone else will think its a fake. That's why I bought another high-zoot watch instead. They have some killer watches out there just as good as TAG and much cheaper. Check out the Breitling watches or Patek
I bought a Titanium Rodania that I had custom made ( bezel from one watch, body from another and the bracelet from a third}

It's your money though!

Ultravox: I see where you're coming from and you're probably right...there will be people who will think that the TAG is a fake. Just as I am sure that many people who see Oakleys wonder if they are fake as well. But there is a reason that there are lots of fake Oakleys and Rolexes and TAGs...and not a lot of fake Casios -- they're just high quality products. I personally would not stay away from these products merely because many people will not know if they are real or not. The people who do know about watches/sunglasses will know the difference...and as you mentioned, most importantly, I will know and be able to tell the difference...of course, if you just wanted something to tell the time with, then there is no need to purchase a nice, high quality watch (since you have a fine watch yourself, I'm sure you're not one of those people)...it's just a matter of preference...

I've actually considered other watches, but I've got my eyes set on a particular TAG. Moreover, if I did purchase a Phillipe Patek or Breitling, why whould anyone think that those watches are more likely real than a TAG? I've seen fakes of both, and really, since most people are not too familiar with these brands, I would imagine that they would either not appreciate these high quality watches, or would be even less likely to tell the difference between the fakes and the genuine stuff...
