I need advice about an older scion XB(updated reply Eclipse)

As some may know my Avalon was totaled last week and I am looking to get a different car. I didn't have a car payment and I don't want one. I am not particularly looking for an XB, I just want something that is cheap, reliable and gets good mpg.

I found a 2005 Xb with a 102k miles, auto and a clean title for 5000(they were asking 5500). The girl who owns it is a non-smoker so that is a plus. She is looking to get a truck and that is why she is selling. I have been looking up prices of comparable XB's and this price seems damn good. So I ask AT garage, what do you think I should do?

Doesn't seem a bad price. I've not cross shopped, but it sounds ok. It sure as sh*t isn't an Avalon, though. In the avalon you've always enjoyed the highway, the size, the feeling of power and total control that you have, the ability to pass anybody with the ease with which Oprah eats cupcakes. The Scion will scream for everything. It will be that cupcake, in fact.

I lol'd. 😀

Yea the older body style is not as nice as the newwer ones but if it has been taken care of it should last a long time and be very good. Try and get the 3.8L motor if you get a Impala. The 3.4L is ok but the 3.8L IMO is better.

Make sure to check the trans fluid and make sure it has been serviced if you look at any FWD cars like the Impala.

Wow....that is gonna be a huge step down....

200 HP to 108 HP...

Solid build quality to questionable build quality...

smooth ride to one spin cycle like ride.

That's why wrecking an older car (that you know is in good shape) really sucks. To replace it at the same cost is such a crapshoot.

Used Buick was a good idea. Excellent quality in the past few years, they depreciate rapidly, usually not abused (average age of a Buick buyers is something like 70 years old.)

I just test drove an 02 accord special edition, it was nice. I used to have an 00 accord so I know what to expect.

Something I've learned about the 3300 series motors, which I believe would therefore apply to the 3800 to a similar degree, is that they can get rather nice gas mileage with the 4-speed automatic. Three weeks ago I drove eight hours to get to Ann Arbor and back with an average speed of 78mph, and I cleared 31mpg over the whole trip. (Cool sidenote- I netted 28-29mpg with the windows down on the same trip at the same speed two weeks later.)

So don't discount those motors in your quest for good gas mileage, they can churn out some numbers when traveling steady-state.

I just looked at an 01 eclipse Spyder convertible . The girl had her second dui and has a court date and needs money. She will take 3000 cash tonight, it is an auto and 134k miles two owners(her mom the first up until 10k ago). I drove it and it was ok but nothing special. Are these reliable?

I think that's actually a Chrysler sebring underneath, so I would have to say no.

My initial instinct is to stay away, more than likely I will be buying the Scion to drive and try to resell for profit or trade for a better car.

Or you can just avoid the hassle and follow the advice of the people in this thread.
