Heh, I knew what you were talking about LizardMan. You just want a way to get into a passworded rar file. Not to crack Winrar. But I don't think either are legal. If a rar file is passworded, there's a reason for it.

Well I got the files on a news group. The guy posted the rar files but no password!!!

so if he posted it, he likely wanted to share it with ppl. So I don't think there's anything wrong with cracking his password.

heh... at least one guy around here knows what I'm talking about :p

I don't know how to crack the rar files.
Best way would be to post on that specific newsgroup and ask the guy.

Any you find will most likely be just a brute-force attack which will take a lot longer than you'll want to spend.

I dont think there is a password cracker for winrar 3 out yet. You could try creating a winrar 3.0 archive yourself and set a simple password (ie dog, cat, etc) and try to crack the 3.0 archive with one of the many 2.x cracks. If it works then you can try to crack the archive that you dont have the password for.

A cracker does exist for Winrar 3.0 BUT

Winrar 3 is now using the AES-128 Standard Encryption, so even if you did have a cracker for it and ......

"Assuming that one could build a machine that could recover a DES key in a second (i.e., try 255 keys per second), then it would take that machine approximately 149 thousand-billion (149 trillion) years to crack a 128-bit AES key."

So if a site says that they have a winrar 3 cracker, technically they may but you may want to sit down and have a coffee while your computer tries to crack the code. Most of the sites that say they have a winrar 3 crack are usually filled with malicious scripts and hacks so beware.
