Is there an online tutorial somewhere?

Windows 2000 Pro desktop and Windows 2000 Pro laptop.

Both are using the same workgroup name. Both are sharing DSL and are hooked to each other via my (switched) Linksys router. The Linksys is set up as a DHCP server with both the computers as DHCP clients. There are no problems with internet access.

I didn't change the defaults for file sharing since they seem to have shares active for all the drives by default. However, I can't see the other computer on either of them. I don't know how to set it up. (Note: I am not using W2000 Server.) I want to be able to share a drive full of MP3 and picture files. Ie. It'd be nice to stream MP3 off my desktop hard drive while I'm on my laptop.

How do I do this?

Eug, there are a couple ways to do this. 1 is more secure than the other.

1. Install the NETBEUI protocol on both machines (more secure this way, but a bit more overhead, not a big deal).
2. Enable the guest account under administrative tools/computer management/local groups and users on both machines.

Pick which way you want to do it, if you enable the guest account you can potentially be letting people on the internet get to your shares..although that depends on how secure your router/firewall is.

Thanx.

I guess if I have one computer set to not use a domain, I have to set the second computer the same way? Stupid question I know but...

All I can say though, Windows 2000's flexibility definitely rocks. Windows 98 now seems like a complete joke, and I still have a hard time with NT 4.

Edit: Answered own question. Answer is no. On my laptop I'm playing Teardrop by Massive Attack off my desktop hard drive right now. :)

However, I couldn't get the networking to work in TCP/IP. Works fine with NetBeui installed though. I guess I'll figure it out later.
