I need a will

I am 28 years old and have never thought about a will, but my wife's father past away last week and he didn't have a will and it is becoming a mess.

My question is has anyone done one of these and can point me in a direction or just general suggestions that I should know. I know it would be rather easy to go to my lawyer, but I wanted to get some knowledge before I went in.

I have a wife, child, homestead, 4 rental properties (5 units), rIRA, and a couple of other saving type accounts. I need to know a way to set it up into a trust for my child as cheaply as possible, but if there isn't anyway around a lot of lawyer fees then I guess it is worth it.

Thanks

do not do it yourself, the forms usually don't take into account a) the particular laws of your state, b) laws change, c) you're going to mess up the tax liabilities.

Thanks for the help guys. I pretty much knew I needed to sit down with my lawyer, but I didn't know how standardized wills where. I saw a couple of web sites that said they could make me a binding will for around 60 bucks. I figured if a will was a will, then I may as well save the money. At least reading through those sites upped my legal IQ and gave me some terminology I could use when I sit down with my lawyer.

Thanks again

PS I would be honored to pass my 2005s to you, but I'm afraid they are on the way out in favor of a lappy, but GD these things are nice!!!!!! maybe I can keep one.
