I'm thinking beaches...beaches with clear water, which limits to mostly West of the FL peninsula...unless I'm blissfully ignorant and there's tons of other white sand beaches with clear water. I'll be flying, so it also needs to be somewhere semi-close to a large airport.

I don't need to do anything but eat and be at the beach, so historic tours and night life aren't important.

I've been to Pensacola and Clearwater...are there better destinations that those places?
 
Just went on a vacation to Turks and Caicos - Providenciales this past April, amazing beaches and great scuba/snorkeling. Only a couple hour flight out of Miami, but you'll need a passport.
 
Good points here. I don't have a passport - really no excuse, I just haven't done it.

I'm taking my family - wife, 9 yr old and 6 yr old. (No pics of wife 😛)

I'm also using AA miles, right now, Fort Lauderdale looks like the leading choice, but we would probably rent a car and spend most of our time in the Naples area. Hmmm, I guess Key West isn't that far from FLL either...maybe we could split our time between Naples and the keys?

I'm about 13k AA miles short of where I need to be. I can buy from them for $325...anywhere else to buy for cheaper?
