I need a vacation!!!

Okay I have a month away until I can take a week off, busily "relax", then go back to work.

We're a little tight on cash this year.

My wife wants to go to Las Vegas - not for the casinos, but for the sights.

I want to go to Cancun.

We might not be able to do neither, so our third option is go somewhere within driving distance and have fun there for a few days. We live in northeastern Pennsylvania.

I prefer vacations where the trip includes travel arrangements, hotel stay, food, and tours/things to do.

My wife prefers vacations with lots of sight-seeing.

Tell me what to do (or at least what you would do or have done).
 
Just for reference, the first 2 weeks of July is shutdown for both Ford and GM, meaning hundreds of thousands of workers will be on vacation at the same time.

I know, it's a horrible time of year to try and take a vacation. But my wife's company has mandatory shutdown during that time, and it's the ONLY opportunity I have to take off from work. Unless I take a vacation without her. 😉

Poconos, whoopdy-do. Been there plenty of times for weekend retreats. In this part of Pennsylvania, everything is mountains and trees. I bet its great for people that live in flat land states, but Poconos is practically my back yard. 😀

Come on down to the Jersey shore. Beaches and the boardwalk are fun places to visit. Just watch out for the North Jersey gangs that like to come down from time to time.

I was going to say come on down to Ocean City Maryland, but for $1000, maybe you should head to Bethany or Rehobeth beach Delaware. You can see the ponies of Assateague, the Coastguard museum, there are a few parks.
