I'm so confused , my whole class was asked by my teacher to give brief presentation on any latest electronics technology ( This is a electronics-1 course), but all latest research in electronics is being done on nano-structure based stuff and almost all of my class-mates are doing presentation on that subject. I was thinking of doing something other than nano-technology , please can anyone suggest me a topic and help in this stupidity?

Thanks in advance

There are many areas that may be of interest to you in electronics.

Here are some that come to mind at 6 am on a Sunday morning...

1. the role of high-K dielectrics in semiconductor fabrication

2. thin film battery technology for advanced battery applications

3. the outlook of organic LEDs for the future of TV and computer displays

4. Flexible printable displays using emerging electrochromic technology

5. The application of ultra capacitors in regenerative braking for automotive

6. New photovoltaic devices in research for higher efficiency conversion

I won't be able to think of any more until I get some coffee in me... Anyway, as an EE prof, I see this stuff regularly.

fleshlight... wait that's not electronic.. I'm way off. How about those headset thingies that read your brain and computer translates into digital signals.

OP, you could always discuss the underlying technology of either Blue Ray or HD-DVD. like how the physical media is made..ie how they data is stored on the disc and the type of laser needed, etc type stuff. that's interesting subject to some.

I'm lazy, so I just grabbed some things from IEEE Spectrum's most recent issue online.

Circular LCD Debuts
Artificial Joints That Talk
The Charge of the Ultra - Capacitors
Transistors Go Vertical (personal favorite of these)

Also neat: Intel and IBM are in something of a horserace over "chip stacking". Intel is introducing its 45 nm products, and there's now a lot of talk about whether it will be possible to keep pushing past 22 nm. New Lithium battery chemistries are coming to market. The market is making the transition to complying with Europe's ROHS rules, which includes a switch away from lead-heavy solders; one result of this is the growing threat of tin whiskers that kill electronics.
