Does the job have to last more than 1 day to be eligible for the laptop?

I'll hire you to work all day on Friday, then you give me my laptop.

F You. Try putting yourself in his shoes...

I think he is pretty serious.

he also said it needed to pay 50k plus have benefits. a 1 day job doesn't qualify.

i think maximus (and others) took him seriously, or at least thought it was inappropriate to post here (which i agree with).

bumpy.... you guys can kid around all you want - it doesn't bother me. But the person who finds me a job WILL get a laptop.

Few leads here and there, we'll see what happens. Why the hell did I go through with an engineering degree?

My advice: Find the field that you want to get into, and consider relocating if need be. It does sound like you have some interested in working with embedded technologies based upon your brief resume; have you considered looking in that direction (perhaps working in product development)? As an engineer in the electronics field, I'm absolutely sure you would get a much higher salary than you currently make in the field of power systems (which tend to be on the low end of the scale for EEs).

Also, take your time in the job search if you can while you still have a job to support yourself. It might prove to pay off if you really do find something you enjoy to go to everyday.

Problem is i'm not really great in any specific field of engineering. I dislike extensive programming, and never really got too deep into logic/comp-E type stuff.

What other options are available that I could get into entry-level style? Things like management, marketing, etc....

Application engineering doesn't require hardcore technical skills

what exactly does application engineering involve? i heard a little bit about it before, but didn't find too many specifics

Considering he requires 50k / year and the only work you have for him will be 1 day, even I would take that deal. 50k/day rules

Did you think about going for Grad School and finding like a Graduate Assistantship? Just a thought. But good luck with your hunt!

I was in the same boat as you. Graduated from duke in 2004 with a double major in BME and EE. But since my GPA was about yours, no one would talk. I now got a job with a pacemaker company. They are always looking for new people. Guidant just got bought by Johnson and Johnson. You could try: Medtronic, St.Jude, ELA, and Biotronik.
