I need a super cheap laptop

dell has the new 1000 with some celeron in it for like $550.

i recommend looking at the hotdeals forum or fatwallet.com, and search for "dell"

Check what there is on E-Bay - there are some pretty good buys there.

IIRC, compusa started a deal for 3xx.xx sempron laptop, be sure to check out hotdeal section

399.99 and here is the deal. It is a Configured to Order laptop from HP. You also get a printer with it, but you pay $80 for shipping & around $250 of rebates (about 70% mail-in). It is not a bad deal at all if you have the patience to see the rebates through. Comp USA is good with rebates, but I am not sure about HP. I would think they are good being such a huge company, but i couldn't tell you from experience.

-Oh and it will take a couple weeks for it to arrive.

Go on ebay and look for an ibm thinkpad 560. You should be able to get one for something like 60 bucks or so plus or minus 20. They are great laptops for the uses you mentioned. Weigh 4 pounds. Great screen. You can plug in a pc card nic (don't use the cardbus versions) and surf the net reasonably. I even plugged in an older wifi 802.11b card (again, one that isn't a cardbus version) and it works fine. It runs nicely on 98SE. Sure it's old and it's only a p-133 but for the usual office stuff it works fine. And it looks very cool, people think it's a modern laptop.
