I recently had a bad experience with an ASUS P4S8X. I thought it would be a good transition board to go from my PIII/CUSL2-C. Basically I wanted to get a cheaper celeron with the hopes of getting a P4 later on down the road when the wife gives me another allowance. Anyway the P4S8X wouldn't load W2K and crashed constantly with ME. Along with a host of other problems it went back to the place of purchase quickly, now I need to find a MB to take my Celeron 1.7 and memory and be as easy to configure and setup as my CUSL2-C.

Other than my recent fiasco I generally like ASUS boards. Any Suggestions would be appreciated.

What kind of memory are you using? Your crashes sound more RAM related.

If you don't want to go with Asus, people swear by Epox.
Intel makes really stable boards also. No overclocking though.

Stick with an Intel chipset. 845E or 845PE. If you are stuck on Asus, the P4B533 or P4PE are good. If not, there are plenty of other good ones available.

OldFart....

I have a new P4 2.53. DDR400 ram, ATI 8500LE.

What do you think would be a good motherboard solution to take advantage of the DDR400? Will want to overclock.

I still like 845D/E chipsets as long as you are running a single stick of ram (I still run 845D). Asus P4B533 is very nice. Thugsrook has one for sale. If you are running more than one stick of ram, the 845PE boards are good and you also get the 4:5 ratio instead of just 3:4 like 845D/E. For that one, there are lots of good boards. Asus, Abit, Albatron, Gigabyte, Epox all look good. If you want to spend more $$ and go dual channel DDR, there is Granite Bay right now, and SiS655 and Canterwood (this is my next board) coming soon.
