I need a soccer team to root for.

Soccer seems to be hugely popular, and I've been trying to diversify my sports interests. So I need a soccer team.

I was thinking about going for Manchester United. If the fans are really anything like they are in Eurotrip, I think I'd like to be a fan.

Whom do you recommend?

Edit: Thanks, Ikonomi.

Oh, I thought you meant a team to play on.

I was going to be really impressed if you joined Manchester United. :p

Don't think so :p

It's called sarcasm, it's a common saying over here (UK) that Man U fans come from everywhere except Manchester because they're all glory hunters.

Most Man U fans are cockneys (londoners) hence the joke.

Chaotic42 if you want any respect from fottball fans then do not claim to support Man U as I can quite honestly say they are the most hated team in the world and their fans are looked down on by every other football supporter. If you want a team to support I suggest you come over to the UK and visit some grounds and talk to some fans to get the best idea ;)

Heh I would argue with that and say Aston Villa ;)

If you've never heard of any of the English teams then the ones you want to support (i.e. the ones with history and who are known all over the world) are from:

Liverpool (probably the most famous English team ever)
Man U (as previously stated do not choose them unless you like derision from real football fans)
Aston Villa (another very famous old club steeped in tradition and known worldwide also happen to be my team :) )
Arsenal (undefeated English premiership champions this season, again if you choose Arsenal you could be accused of glory hunting)

Thats pretty much it in the Premiership for clubs with History, tradition, worldwide recognition and success on the European stage All 4 clubs have won the highest prize in European club football, the European Cup (though I'm not sure if Arsenal have ever won it please correct me if I'm wrong someone).

Basically you can't go wrong with 3 out of those 4...

Fvckin A, i didn't know there were so many Liverpool supporters on this board. Anyway, 3rd on Liverpool. But it seems to be a UK dominated thread. Not that I'm byast, because I love the premier league :) but what about spanish teams? Barca? Valenica? even the Yankee... I mean Real Madrid :p

They won't the last season's English Premier League title undefeated, something not achieved in the last 42 years (I think), when league games are a lot less than the 38 games they are playing now!:beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::D

Some of the current stars in the team are Thierry Henry (France), Patrick Vieira(France), Dennis Bergkamp (Holland), Robert Pires (France), Freddie Ljungberg (Sweden), Sol Campbell (England), Jose Reyers (Spain - I think) etc etc.. I'm sure I've missed one of two :)

The are also known as The Gunners :)

Edit: And oh, Thierry Henry was the top scorer for at least the last two seasons too!

ur, not being mean, but why not start watching some games and decide which team YOU actually like, not what WE like?

anyway, common favs are: Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Porto, and FC Tokyo (hehe)? Liverpool has some diehard fans despite their near dying team :p.

My favorite teams:

Arsenal in U.K.
Real Madrid in Spain.
Bayern Munich in Germany.
Parma in Italy.
Galatasaray in Turkey.

I don't like the French league ...
