I need to create a small forum on a web site.. just for a few people.. whats the easiest way to go about this?

If you have or need a host, make sure they support Perl, PHP, or ASP. Then select the appropriate forum for the scripting language. YaBB for Perl, phpBB for PHP, and Snitz for ASP. They've all got adequate documentation and good support communities.
