Hey guys..... recently I got a new hard drive, so I finally have enough disk space to fit my CD collection on the hard drive. But since I'm gonna be doing so many... I need something simple. Something where I can put a cd in the drive, click go or whatever, and 20 minutes later (or whatever time) I have a full album categorized and named perfectly. I found one this easy, Audiocatalyst, but now it's started making terrible quality mp3s.... I've also tried Exact Audio Copy and CDex, but both of them take forever + are complicated as hell! I just can't put up with all that while I'm gonna be trying to rip 120+ cds straight.

Can ANYONE help me??

PLEASE!

most solemnly yours,

Robert

I would very much suggest Easy CD-DA Extractor, it's up to version 5.0, and after you set it up the first time, it'll extract a CD with 3 key presses.

(F9-F8-Enter if i remember right)

It is free to try, and you can download it here

i usually use steinbergs wavelab but if your looking for somthing silpler try creatives juke player, it lets u convert to mp3 at varible bit rate up to 320, u simply select the the tracks u want encoded and with my athlon 1.4t/b it takes about 2 minutes to do a cd

Thanks guys... I put a little bit more effort into CDex, and seemed to have fixed the error message I was going.. so it's all good now, I just hope it stays that way.

Okay, so you want to rip a whole bunch of CD's as fast as possible, right? Well I ripped my 250+ CD's last year and here is how I did it.

1. First use EAC to rip to WAV. Be sure you have a good folder/file format for storage. I recommed Artist\Album\Track# - TrackName. I don't have the EAC encodings for this as I am at work, PM if you want them and I'll get them later.

2. Then use Razor Lame to batch encode the WAVs to MP3 while you are away from your computer. Razor Lame allows you to send a bunch of files into Lame in sequence.

3. Lastly use Tag and Rename to put in the ID3 tags. Unfortunately, this route doesn't automatically put in the ID3 tags. But hey, you did that directory structure right? T&R can automatically poll CDDB and snag everything for you if you do it this way. Can populate both ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags in one step.

Now the reason this works faster is that you are doing this:
Ripping a bunch of CD's to WAV(time consuming process that needs your attention). Then converting the WAVs to MP3 in batch. By ripping straight to WAV rather than encoding, you can cut your time in half for that step. And encode when you don't need the computer.
Rather than doing this:
Ripping a single CD straight to MP3, then next CD.

This works best for sessions when you are ripping a lot of CD's. Using something like CDEX is better for a one or two CD session.

Again, PM if you want more details. I have walked MichaelD thru this before so I have some experience at it.

I use MusicMatch Jukebox my self to convert all my cd collection to mp3's. Works nice.

CDex - uses LAME codec - see r3mix.net for more info :)
Free - Open source - fast - easy
You might need to go to adaptec.com and download the latest ASPIs(?)

nord1899 has a great alternative for LOTS of cd ripping.

Thanks.

My method is really intended if you have a bunch of CD's to rip, not if you are ripping a few CD's. This guy says he has 120+ to do, so I offered my method which worked for me and my 250+ CD collection.

CDEX or EAC straight to LAME would be the prefered method of doing one or two CD's at a time.

I just couldn't stand waiting for the damn thing to encode when that can be done while I am asleep.
Ripping needs your attention. Encoding does not.

Another vote for MusicMatch, simple fast and efficient for all burning needs MP3, wave and whatever.
