I need a SATA raid card for non-raid use..

I need to run 8 DVD drives on a Tyan Thunder K8S Pro. I have one PCI-X slot open and I want to use a 8 port raid card to run them. Which card would be best to use (I would assume I have to re-flash to a non-raid firmware).

I am looking for a cost effective solution under $100 (over that and I will just get a new mobo). Any help and info appreciated.

You forgot to list the Operating System you want to use the controller with. If that is Windows, your options are severely limited.

Oh and if you want a controller for non-RAID use, you do not want a RAID controller, but rather a 'HBA' or Host Bridge Adapter.

Tyan Thunder K8s Pro
16gb PC3200 ECC REG Memory
2 x 500gb Western Digital green HD's (no raid)
Windows 7 64Bit/ Ubuntu 11.04 (Windows may be switched over to Server Edition)
EVGA Geforce 6200 PCI card
8 ASUS DVD+R drives

You can try SuperMicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 PCI-X controller:

This sure whether it supports ATAPI though, which is required in order for CD/DVD opticals to work.
