I am ordering my adelphia power link cable this week, and will need a router. I have a 166 that is extra, and dont really want to buy a standalone router. I have 3 pcs currently, 1 win2k, and 2 98se's(and the extra 166). i WAS THINkng of runing nt4 server(i already have it) on the 166. tell me what you think!

If you want to run it on the P166, I'd suggest fresco, or e-smith. It seems really cool, and I'd use it if I had an extra Pentium based machine. 🙂

Let me know how your cable works..I'm about 45 mins northeast of you, and I'm having Powerlink installed Tuesday afternoon. I've already bought a Netgear RT314 for $70, though I dunno if I'm going to return it and get an SMC 7004BR Barricade.

Hmm, I don't think FreeSCO or e-smith will work if you want to run an MP3 server too. I'd either install WinNT Server 4.0 (it does NAT?), or Win98SE and install ICS.

Get Freesco and move2hdd command on it to transfer it to the hard drive. Then install the samba package and you can then see it in the network on your Windows machines. This works great as my Freesco is also a file server for my network.

well, one of the 3 machines is a p75, but i dont think it will work to well as a file server and router, so i am devoting the 166 to that job..
