I'm having some trouble finding a cheap one way ticket from Seattle to San Diego, for this Saturday morning.

Anyone know any way to find good deals?

Airlines have been known to charge you the difference if they discover your trick.

Wouldnt you be able to dispute the charge?

What's the logic behind this? Are you assuming a one-way ticket costs more than round-trip?

My wife always used Alaska Air, but it looks a little pricey for one-way (272).

One way is almost always more expensive than roundtrip. The act of buying a roundtrip ticket and only using it for one way travel is called throw-away ticketing.

I found some for $99 that have an hour stop in Vegas.... Now I'm wondering if I should take work off on Friday and just fly down to Vegas for the night then head to San Diego on Saturday morning...

Edit: Or I could just fly strait to San Diego on Friday then drive up to Vegas for the night...

Drive from San Diego to Las Vegas? Isn't that like 6 hours?

I think it's more 'cause back home I'm about 1.5 hours away from SD and it takes us like 6 hours to get to Las Vegas.

I don't think its quite that far, but I need to go north either way (I'm buying a car down there, so I'll be driving up to Seattle).

If you use the first portion of the round-trip ticket but don't use the return portion, TECHNICALLY, you're in violation of the airline tarriffs, and they COULD try to backcharge you for a one-way ticket. It happens, although not frequently. HOWEVER, if you skip the first portion of the trip, you generally won't be able to use the return portion either. Normally, if you are a no-show for the outbound leg of your trip, the entire ticket including return is cancelled, and there's not a dammed thing you can do about it since you have not upheld your contract (the ticket is a contract) with the airline.

Lots of people dump the return ticket, and the airlines know this. Usually, they don't do anything about it, but be aware, they CAN if they choose to be nasty.

Try Craigslist.org in Seattle and then look up "rideshare" to save $$ I have taken two passengers before and they helped me with the gas...

The chances are MUCH higher if you list a frequent flyer number, as well. That's because people do it for miles, as well.
